Lots of theoretical options out there that could be helpful to us right now.

Wolde speculated that the Revs are in the same position that Colorado was in when they went to the MLS Cup final. I think if we have any prayer of coming close to that we will need something big.

Kante - is officially signed but last I heard is still waiting on visa stuff. If and when he gets on the pitch, is he likely to make much of a difference?

Griffiths - a left sided midfielder. From the LAG forum:
"The 23-year-old Griffiths joined Los Angeles in a trade with the MetroStars last April 20 for a conditional SuperDraft pick, but bad practice habits -- not showing up -- led to the Galaxy waiving him on Thursday, a move that Schmid was not eager to make. "Basically, because he is a player with very good abilities," said the coach. "But you have to show up!"
Sounds like mini-Diego. If we could get him through the maze of waiver, salary cap and guaranteed contracts, would we want him?

Quijano - another midfielder, waived by LA then by Colorado. He is a little guy (5'9" 150#) and hasn't seen the pitch much. Same maze to navigate I imagine.

Cassar - keeper formerly of Miami dropped by Ipswichtown. Healthy and athletic or another injury-prone problem. Probably less likely than Griffiths or Quijano considering that he isn't even signed with MLS.

DC United apparently will need to trade with us, the Crew, or ? for a discovery option if they choose to sign Gazza. Another big IF - but if so, then who from DC is Crazy Ray likely to deal and would we want a cast off from another weak team?

And, who of our talented players do we dismiss?

OR, would another roster change just delay the gelling process?

I think DC would be willing to give up either Olsen or Convey for a discovery pick to get Gazza. Literally, we have (or Columbus) has Gazza and DC wants him, so they will have to trade a big player for him. We need help on defense, but the DC defense is shaky, so why not pick up a young american offender.

Cassar would be a great pick up but i think we should take our chances with Brown. A better idea would to get rid of Sommer and pick up Cassar, stick him in the #1 spot and have brown learn from Jeff, that way we have a good keeper now and a good keeper coming up.

As for the other guys, there is a reason why they were released and I don't think the Revs would pick any of them up, especially Griffiths.

Only if we also get a new coach as well since SN probably wouldn't go for a system centered around a #10.

To get El Diablo would be stupid. He's past his prime, like another rev, and would only bitch. I don't want him, and i think many would second that. Like I said, Olsen or Convey would be the best pick for us. Plus, i think Etch will leave once he figures out that Gazza will take his spot.

It looks like the Discovery slot trade for Gazza idea may be fading away before it even became clearer.

Ray was quoted after the game yesterday saying that DC needs help up top and that priority may put a halt to Gazza's signing with them.

Yea i heard that it will take two things to get Gazza here, one, deciding if he (Gazza) wants to sign, and two, if the league wants to sign him for a price he is willing to take. Hopefully it will go down, I'd really like to see him play at CMGi the next time they comes here.

Again, I disagree with JG's assessment of Kante's discovery status. He was drafted by DC this year and not signed. I don't believe that makes him discoverable.

I don't know, you might be right. I was fairly certain he was discovered.

I looked through any releases or articles I could find, everything simply talked about the Revs "signing" him. Nothing specific. Usually if it's a waiver pickup, it says so. Since Kante hadn't signed a contract with MLS at DC, so I don't see any reason why he would have been kept in the league's player pool.

I think that $75k is closer to the max salary that a discovery player can make. The amount of money used to acquire a discovery would be minimal. Aren't almost all of them free transfers?

I hear the Revs will be adding Marshall Leonard (2002 draft pick who trained with them but didn't sign) as developmental along with Daouda Kante's signing. Anybody else here this, or am I sniffing too much glue?
