Europe is known for having several summer concert
festivals. Here are some links to a few that are going
on:

http://www.southside.de/index.php?lng=_englisch
includes acts like Death Cab for Cutie, Sigur Ros, Ben
Harper, etc.

for those that like ze hard rock und metal

http://www.rock-im-park.com/

Just wanted to present some of these options, you
might want to check to see if a band you love is
playing on one of your off days.

I am strongly considering Graspop.

Please post any other festivals, concerts, and touring acts you hear about that you think would be interesting off-day activities.

If there are any 80's fans out there, Howard Jones in touring Germany in June and doing electronic shows (rare).
You can get more info at his website:
http://www.howardjones.com/hojo.html

I will be looking for any good jazz/bop, 80's bands or newer bands like Royksopp, Boards of Canada or Imogen Heap for i.e. if anyone has any tips. BD

Anybody know where Nickelsdorf, Germany is? The Nova concert sounds like something my boys might enjoy.....all of us actually! Wondering where that's at, though. The site is in German, so I'm having trouble navigating it. Any help would be appreciated!

As the domain name .at indicates, Nickelsdorf is not in Germany, but in Austria.

Some quotes from the FAQ, translated by me:

"The area is about 50 km away from Vienna and is located directly at the border to Hungary."

"Distance to other cities:
[...] Munich 500 km"

I had no idea (would most people assume that when they see ".at"?). I feel so silly! Thanks for clarifying. Looks like we'll have to pass on seeing Metallica this trip! There's some great concerts going on though!

The Rheinkultur line-up is now complete.
The Subways have cancelled (they're supporting Taking Back Sunday on their US tour), but Death Cab For Cutie have agreed to come. :)
You can see the line-up here (http://www.rheinkultur-festival.de/index.php?sess=e709a41d193acc87694fc6b854b9c34f&navi=300&kategorie=3).
(Slut (http://www.rheinkultur-festival.de/index.php?sess=e709a41d193acc87694fc6b854b9c34f&navi=300&kategorie=3) will be taking the 'special guest' slot)

Sweet jumpin christ, why can I not escape Metallica on my trips to Europe? I was in Amsterdam 2 years ago and found myself on a subway car full of metal-ed out Germans on their way to a show at ArenA :D

"Oh hey cool, a Metallica concert. That would be awesome... if this was 1997..." --My friend's comment, met with silent scowls ;)

If any of you are in Germany for the Tool shows I highly recommend you check them out. The small venue tour they just did before heading to Europe was awesome.
