So I see this crap is being recycled in Canada... Can't Canadians write their own stupid articles?

Silly reporters doing what reporters do!
It's a credible rumour backed up by compelling information--information you have never fully explained (and I understand that you, in this tight lip, when in doubt deny, deny, deny era, do not feel that you can speak to the evidence, nor do you feel that you should have to speak to it).
My question to that is why not? We aren't talking about something important here. It's sports. Tell us what thought went into coming up with this name. And, I'm sorry, the "it's just one of many names being considered" line doesn't hold water when there isn't any evidence of those other names. At some point, someone decided that Inter Toronto FC needed to be registered as a US trademark. No other name was. That says something.
I understand why you don't want to tell this narrow little group what's up. After all, the big, bad press is probably lurking (Hi Cathal!) and it will leak to a bigger audience. And you can't have that because, um, ah, well, hmm. Why exactly can't we have that again?

With respect SOG, you're not being fair to our friend. He is part of a very big sports empire. He can't start dropping inside information into this forum only to find himself out of a job because a CEO, COO or GPB (Grand Poobah) hangs him out to dry for revealing secret information.
Even denying something can be going too far sometimes. To MLSE, it is obviously not "just sports", it's their bread and butter, their kingdom, their survival.
We're fortunate that MLS IN TORONTO is here. Let's not chase him away by asking him questions that he can't answer and then act like we deserve an answer because we are SO IMPORTANT!

I can't believe the silly nonsense being spewed out over the name on the V. Some people saying they will not support the club or go to games if it is called Inter Toronto. What kind of a soccer lover are you if you refuse to support a team beause you don't like the club's name?

I have no problem with the papers picking up the story...I merely qualified it for the previous poster: It WAS an internet rumour until the papers picked it up. There was no judgement in my words - just clarification. I like the fact that it was picked up.

Yes well even bad news is still news, and is therefore publicity for the future MLS team!

I fully understand that mlsintoronto can't tell us anything about the naming process. I understand that he needs to respect the corporate sports culture he is a part of. My comments are in no way a personal shot at him.
I think it's great that mlsintoronto is here. But I also think it’s in his advantage to be here. It isn't unique for sports teams to monitor boards like these and to even participate in them. Teams like this direct stuff because it allows them to speak directly to their biggest fans and because it's an end-around the cynical, pain in the a$$, professional sports media. The professionalizing of the field has made far too many sports hacks journalists for corporate sports liking. The Blog /discussion board nation is far more forgiving.
Grab a copy of the March 27 Sports Illustrated for a great article on this.
But, anyway, mlsintoronto...it ain't personal. I trust you understand that. And I'm mellowing on the Inter thing. It is just a name (a poor one, I haven't mellowed that much).
