Fürth's Christian Eigler replaces Trochowski.

I'm assuming Meier takes Trochowski's place in the XI?

Eigler is in, but not Boateng.

Clearly Eilts has something against Boateng now, for reasons I can't comprehend.

yes. Meier is a good player, but he lost his good form in the last months. If he plays like he did in the first 15 Bundesliga matches, then we won't miss Trochowski THAT much. If not, we'll have a problem.

I don't understand though that he rather nominates Eigler who is not prepared to play 4-3-3 or 4-5-1 than Boateng who is a variable type of player!

Good luck U21 against the last Serb and Montenegro and get the 3 points!

we lost a talent. Assimiou Toure will play for Togo in the world cup. He was a regular U18 player and got a phone call from the togo coach in the German U18 bus when they were on their way to a match...He can't even speak the language, he can only speak German but yet he decides to play for Togo (they have a German coach btw)...

Nice win, as expected though, the other two teams will be much tougher.

KP Boateng wasn't nominated for the U21 Euro because he will be used for the second Qualifikation round of the U19 that starts on May 26. He and Marc-Andre Kruska will lead the german U19 midfield.

Eigler is not bad either. He's not a midfielder but the U21 have Alex Maier now as another midfielder and Eigler was the best striker in the 2. Bundesliga this season. So Eilts' decision does make sense.
He already has Masmanidis, Polanski and Alex Maier who can play offensive midfield. That's 3 players for only one spot in the 4-3-3 system. And we already have Schulz, Lehmann, Riether and Niemayer for the 2 defensive midfield positions. Those players we are talking about are all starters for their club teams. Although Polanski and KP Boateng probably are the most talented midfielders of the bunch.

Both, the U19 and the U21 are the most talented we had in years. And there are still many players that haven't gotten nominated yet but that start or play regularly for professional teams.

Yeah good win although not convincingly. It'll be more difficult to get points from France and Portugal.

Serbia-Montenegro is no nobody at this age,
their last U21 team reached the final at the last U21 EC.

But i agree, next opponent France (match on Thursday)
and Portugal are tought opponents.

Will any of the U17 players be called up for the U19 EC Qualifying round 2 ?

Looking over the squad list a Manuel Fischer would most likely be an improvement over some of those guys. Argueably the one or other midfielder or defender Schorch as well.

Mmh, Germany has really bad luck with injuries at the U21-tournament.

Polanski injured in the first match and can´t play the second today. :(

And Polanski was the replacement for Trochowski (and the best player in the first match IMO). :( It all reminds me of the U19 Euro last year. We had an amazing squad but lost to France in the semi-final because we simply lost our good players due to injury during the tournament.

Sadly, France are kicking arse, 3-0. Christ, it all fell apart rather quickly after conceding the 1st goal in the 45th minute.

Its hard to comment on a match that I am not actually seeing with my own 2 eyes, but it is sad to see a German team(on any level) just get steam-rolled like this. According to the ticker, Germany seemed to have the better of it in the first half, despite the late France goal. If I am not mistaken, that goal was France's 1st or 2nd shot attempt. In the 2nd half, it has been an absolute onslaught with 7(!) additional shots on goal. Its as though the Germans threw in the towel after the 2nd & 3rd goals. My image of German soccer forever changed after that sad defeat to Croatia in '98. I know that is totally unrelated but the legendary German fighting spirit somehow was shattered for me after that day, and was further trampled at the Olympiastadion against England a few years later.

That's who I was thinking, but I have to admit, that I forgot.:o

I can still remember that tackle. :(

The ironic thing was that Germany was playing some of their best football of the tournament before that red card. That completely changed the match.

Back to the U21...

Not a good result, but France are the favorites to win this tournament, so it's not a surprise really (well, the scoreline maybe). How did Meier play? I recall that he's had nothing much left in the tank the last couple of months. Let's hope Polanski will return against Portugal
