Russia played a 10-0-0 and got lucky on one of their three or so counter attacks.

Hmm...didn't know Falko Goetz coached Russia U17 too?

The 2 hot favourites of the tournament end up playing in a match for the 3rd place. It's quite a disappoinment for Germany after such a fine running in the event. In the last 10-15 years of the same competition, I think this is the third or fourth time that the team plays in a match to decide for tthe 3rd place.
That´s cup, not always the best teams win.
That makes it interestung,
but you can be sure, that the German youngsters
have a brighter future than the Russian guys,
who can´t play good attacking football, but that´s live.
The guys should learn from it, sounds stupid,
but somethimes you can learn more from a defeat than
from a win.

The results of the u17 european championship 2006:
Third place playoff:
Spain 1: Germany 1 (Spain won by penalty kick 3-2)
Final:
Russia 2: Czech 2 (Russia won by penalty kick 5-3)
Who would have expected Russia to emerge as the eventual winner?
This is football and everything is possible.
WM 2006 Champions, Germany?
Why not!

Nice squad by Dieter.
I'm somewhat surprising that Kevin-Prince Boateng hasn't been upgraded to the U21's yet. He certainly could be a key contributor.

To Callsen Bracker:
He isn´t injured, but only played for the reserve team of Leverkusen this year.
I think, this is the reason, why Dieter didn´t nominate him for the EC.
To Boateng:
He really deserved a spot in the team.
Don´t know, why he isn´t nominated.

Is there a U19 tournament coming up? Thats the only reason I could suspect that He's not in there.

That is a SOLID squad that could very well win the tournament, there is plenty of first league experience there.

Match report ( German language ) can be found here: http://www.dfb.de/news/suche.php?id=7938&lang=D&action=show
Result: 2:2
Trochowski and Sinkewiecz injured, diagnosis tomorrow
Fromlowitz sent off, Lehmann of 1860 playing goalie  I guess all subs were used at that point.
Goals by: Emanuelson, Hilbert ( Assist: Rafael ), Zomer ( own goal ), Zeeuw
lineup:
Rensing (46. Fromlowitz)
Volz (70. Ochs), Matip, Brzenska (46. Sinkiewicz), Fathi (46. Castro)
Schulz (46. Lehmann), Riether (46. Polanski), Trochowski (12. Meier)
Helmes, Kießling (46. Hilbert), Rafael (70. Masmanidis)
Sounds like an "interesting" match. Btw, Fromlowitz didn't do the Lehmann, but grabbed the ball outside the box.
