Spain beat Ghana to reach the final. Not too surprised as Spain was one of the heavy favorites from the beginning.

Best of luck to our boys tomorow!

Their best player, Krkic of Barcelona, was sent off though. He is suspended for the final.

But Germany have to get there first.

FT: Nigeria 3-1 Germany
Nigeria was the better team in a close game, Vollath (the keeper) did not have the best of games and generally the German team did not perform as good as they had in the previous rounds. Next game is against Ghana for the 3rd place, while Nigeria will meet Spain in the final.

I disagree that nigeria were better. They were better for scoring the 3 goals, although each one could be well argued that they could have been prevented, but they weren't better on balance of play.

2nd half the possession was something like 70% germany, but they played too much like portugal. Not enough incisive edge like the germany senior side have. Germany were somewhat better on balance of play, but nothing dominating.

Should only have been 1-1 really as I will give vollath the benefit of the doubt for the first goal as it was VERY hard struck.

I'm happy with the passing game and skills of these kids. Even the defenders are all very comfortable on the ball. Reminds me of the 70s backline. For the people that don't know, even schwarzenbeck had three times the skill of a metzelder easily.

Kroos looks more and more like zidane every time I see him. He is on a different level to ballack in some skills, and as good at the other skills. A real #10.

Shame but congratulations to the lads for doing so well in this tournament while playing really good football. I didn't expect them to get this far and they did so great for them.

Kroos is an immense talent and I can't wait to see more of him.

It's a pity they couldn't make the final, but a semi final isn't a bad achievement either.

FT: Germany 2 - 1 Ghana
The U17 team finished 3rd after this victory. The scorers were Kroos (a nice free kick) and Esswein in the injury time (assist made by Kroos). Esswein was sent off right after he scored, as the referee showed him the 2nd yellow card for taking his shirt off - funny thing is, he received the 1st card 1 minute before he scored for diving. Ghana in the 2nd half had the possession but they didn't create many chances.
It was a good tournament for Germany, the team has many talented youngsters -Kroos was obviously the star, but Bigalke, Sukuta-Pasu, Rudy, Rausch and Dowidat also played well- and certainly the future seems bright for them.

Nigeria beat Spain 3-0 in a tension-filled penalty shootout. This is the third overtime for Spain and there weary legs finally succumbed to over three hundred and fifty consecutive minutes of soccer. It just goes to show that you can only play this tactic too long.

This guy is incredible for his age. He deservedly was named Player of the Tournament. Only a matter of time before Loew calls him up if he continues like this.

He is incredible full stop. You don't find many players at all players with that game at any age.

I bet he is the next bayern player to get capped, and might even be the next new cap of any team after khedira and tasci finally get their caps.

I think it is more likely that he will be capped in the run up to WC2010. I expect by then he will have broken into Bayern's first team.

Hitzfeld is a very smart manager and he will not waste a talent like Kroos by burning him out early.

He will only get burned out early by playing well, and regularly, early. So that defeats your point doesn't it ;)
