Selon Le Parisien, Raymond Domenech aurait choisi Fabien Barthez pour garder les buts de l'équipe de France lors du Mondial. Le sélectionneur aurait laissé à Bruno Martini le soin de trancher en faveur du Marseillais... en ne s'appuyant pas uniquement sur des critères extra-sportifs. Info ou intox ?

"Barthez sait désormais qu'il est l'heureux élu" . A en croire Le Parisien, le feuilleton Barthez-Coupet aurait trouvé son épilogue. Le quotidien affirme en effet dans son édition de lundi que Raymond Domenech aurait décidé de confier les buts tricolores à Fabien Barthez lors de la prochaine Coupe du monde. Ou plutôt, le sélectionneur a confié à Bruno Martini, entraîneur des gardiens de l'équipe de France, le soin de prendre cette lourde décision.

Cette semaine, Martini a supervisé le portier de l'OM a deux reprises, à Auxerre (1-2) puis face à Strasbourg (2-2). A l'issue de ce dernier match, il se serait d'ailleurs entretenu directement avec Barthez. "Même si rien ne laisse penser que c'est à ce moment-là qu'il a mis le capitaine de l'OM dans la confidence, des sources concordantes à la Fédération française et dans l'entourage du joueur s'accordent pour affirmer que Barthez sait désormais qu'il est l'heureux élu", dévoile ainsi le journal.

Un choix qui, s'il s'avère confirmé, ne manquera pas de susciter une vive polémique. Alors que Barthez sort d'une saison assez moyenne dans les rangs olympiens, Grégory Coupet a réalisé une année pleine avec l'Olympique lyonnais mais aussi l'équipe de France. Sacré par ses pairs meilleur gardien de Ligue 1 dimanche, le Gone pourrait crier à l'injustice. "Je n'ose pas trop y penser tellement ça pourrait être traumatisant. Il me faudra du temps, je crois que j'aurai besoin d'un moment d'adaptation pour me remettre à l'endroit" , déclarait-il déjà ce week-end à l'idée de retrouver une place de N°2.

Mais, selon Le Parisien, la décision de titulariser Fabien Barthez aurait été guidé par des raisons extra-sportives. D'abord, le champion du monde et d'Europe n'a jamais failli lors des grands rendez-vous internationaux, "y compris lors du fiasco du Mondial 2002". "Le retour de Zidane et de Thuram en sélection, en août dernier, a tout changé", avance ensuite le quotidien. Car, "ce n'est un secret pour personne, les grands anciens ont davantage d'atomes crochus avec le Marseillais qu'avec le Lyonnais, même s'ils n'ont rien contre ce dernier".

Escalettes n'y croit pas

Alors que le journal ne s'interroge plus que sur la date de l'annonce de ce choix par Raymond Domenech et sur son accueil, Jean-Pierre Escalettes doute du bien fondé de cette information. "Je ne discute pas de la composition de l'équipe avec le sélectionneur. Mais cela m'étonnerait que Raymond Domenech se laisse aller à ce genre de façon de faire", a déclaré par téléphone à Reuters le Président de la FFF. this is just rumor; le parisien is not the best place to go for the real poop on sports issues!

but the bit about martini gives it at least the ring of truth, as raymundo has said he'd give him what amounts to final say. which is not only chickening out, it is downright idiotic if the result is barthez!

Pires has been playing pretty good of late. I still don't see him getting a call up at this stage in the game but I really hope Giuly at least does.

Pires (or possibly Ribéry or Micoud) has a shot if Domenech decides to go a with a little more offense and take 7 defenders and 9 midfielders (instead of 8-8), in which case I believe he'll drop Boumsong.

Two players who really deserve a chance but are flying under Domemech's radar: Malbranque and N'Zogbia. Too bad for them. I'd take Malbranque over Anelka and N'Zogbia over Dhorasoo.
