View Full Version : Texian Army Official Watch Party Destination
CeltTexan
11 Apr 2006, 12:38 PM
Our Headquarters for watch parties is located at Big John's Sports Bar and Grill
The Texian Army welcomes any and all to come join us for ALL Houston and U.S.A. matches. Texian Army card carrying members will always receive a 20% discount on food and drink. We will always have first priority on TVs and more importantly the massive Hi-Def projection screens in the main room. The screens are approximately 90" x 80" and no other watering hole in the city can match this type of viewing technology! We also will be starting to cover the main room's walls with flags, banners and a brand new Houston jersey. The owner, Rudy, has supported our Houston pro franchises for decades. Big John's has been in business since I was in the 4th grade. I have been going there for soccer matches for the last decade as his establishment has consistantly been in business. He has wholeheartedly been supportive of soccer (Houston Rangers SG has been going here for many years) and is now very pumped up that Houston has an MLS franchise.
On Sat. night we will officially stamp our Houston Dynamo colors and Texian Army crest on Big John's walls. When people walk in to Big John's from here on out, they will be indoctrinated to Houston soccer culture. Who else in this city has this type of atmosphere for us die hards.

As President of our Texian Army, I will never tell you where to eat or drink. I do want to make it crystal clear in that Big John's wanted to keep their tradition going of being THE place for a Supporters Group to meet, eat, drink and watch their team play. Come on by once and you will know why I closed a deal with Big John's. No quotas to meet at this Sports bar...just good folks from all over, hot food, cold beer and sports on 14 Hi-Def Plasma screens 24/7.
BTW, it looks like there is a new chapter in Houston soccer culture. There are several Bars, Sports Bars and Restaurants wanting to be "the" place to go and watch some footy. I don't want a Cola War so go where ever you like sports fans. As I have it, the Houston scene will break down as follows...
Niko Niko's-Greek diner on Montrose with the desire to support Glenn and his show.
The Mezz-After party location on Kirby, games/drinks and totally new to soccer.
Big John's-Texian Army Home Base with massive Hi-Def screens located off Bltwy 8
Bulls and Bear-Up the street from Big John's on Westheimer and the Official watch party location for the Houston Front Office

WAR DYNAMO!!!!!!!!!!!
Tonight no lo se??? You might send him a PM as he is Dre around BSland.
I would only guess that on Sat night we will be in full form and color. Then you can get signed in proper like and issued the plastic membership card.
If you, or any other U.S. footy supporter, are out there at Big John's tonight than sit with me. I will get all potential Texian Army volunteers who have not officially joined the same 20% discount.
I hope to continue to meet new Houston area soccer fanatics. The new friends that are being made by everyone involved is what I am witnessing as unique to Houston pro sports. What other of our Houston teams have a set group that brings people together like our Texian Army does???
Hope to see you there tonight and Dale U.S.A.!!! Onwards to Germany Brian Ching!

Has Rudy really supported other Houston pro franchises for decades, because he hasn't supported the Dynamo in any way other than make an arangement with you in order to get your business.
Bull and Bear has generously offered a 100 dollar discount per seson seat to move into section 113 for the first 100 Texian Army members who would like to relocate, no quota.
The Bull and Bear is the official away game viewing destination of the Houston Dynamo, period. Check it out at http://houston.mlsnet.com/MLS/hou/fans/watching_party/

Personally, I feel that if we gave our word that we would go to Big John's then that's where we should go. I don't want the Texian Army to become known as a group that lacks integrety and will say one thing when it's convenient for them but then do something else.
I don't know everything that has gone on but I do know that Rudy stepped up before anybody else did and we had an agreement with him. If that deal wasn't good enough then we shouldn't have agreed to it, but from what I've seen it's a very good deal. To me backing out now isn't an option.

Rizzo, are you reading this and how we feel over the way we have had to deal with AEG and its business policies???
The fact that AEG handed our Texian Army a quota to do your job was not cool to say the least. Then the freakin' name change cluster********. Then we didn't even have our jerseys until the week before kickoff. Somehow in all this, the Texian Army was supposed to be reaching a quota in season ticket sales just for us to receive a break on first season ticket prices! C'mon man wake up and smell what you are shoveling!
Then no one on our bar/pub list of Richmond Arms, Bulls and Bear or Griffs would even close a deal with the Texian Army. Richmond Arms are posers, that was understood. Griff's told us they blew their wad on Texans season tickets and their St. Patty's Day shindig. So it came down to Bulls and Bear and Big John's. As Celtic guys go to B & B, I called them back in the last week of freakin' Feb. to get them on board. Even in our modern day of cell phones and emails I heard nothing back after leaving numerous messages. As Big John's is a Rangers place, me CELTTEXAN, calls up Rudy and he instantly shows interest in a "deal".
However that deal would not be budged on by you, James Martin, or AEG obviously, on the over priced end line tickets for 113. Rudy clearly asked you to come down a little on the 12 Grand you wanted him to pony up for our quota. Instead of finaly dropping the quota and just getting a deal ironed out the week of Opening Kickoff, AEG once again San Josed the supporters of this franchise.
I spoke with my people and we had enough of trying to close a deal just so we can get a seats locked in and to make AEG more money! Rizzo, I will say this for the last time...after the quick move, the horrific name change and the lack of business insight in dealing with the local media, South Texas State Federation, local Bars and finally us...you and AEG have a hellava lot to learn when it comes to dealing with Texas folk.
You got what you wanted in Bulls and Bear to plop down the 12 large, your quota has been met my man and you get the nice commision check. Yet you screwed up. You thought wrong big time when you closed a "deal" with Tom at Bulls and Bear without any Texian Army officer present. I as President never have met Tom, I have never even spoken to him on what our Texian Army gets out of his envolvement with the tickets for 113 Most important is the complete lack of traditional business understanding displayed when AEG closes a deal 48 hours before Sunday's Opening Kick. By that time Rizzo, the Texian Army had closed our own deal with a Sports Bar that returns calls, shakes a person's hand and makes a true commitment with no strings attached. Lessoned learned my friend. Write it down, take a picture, tell your boss so as to make sure this shit is never pulled again in our city!

The fact that AEG handed our Texian Army a quota to do your job was not cool to say the least.
AEG may have given you a quota, but I was always working with and for you to secure a deal where no quota would be necessary, and you know that.
However that deal would not be budged on by you, James Martin, or AEG obviously, on the over priced end line tickets for 113. Rudy clearly asked you to come down a little on the 12 Grand you wanted him to pony up for our quota. You have no idea what your talking about. I tried my best to get something arranged with Rudy. Lowering the price, offering trade, asking him what he was comfortable with; and every time I spoke with him he said he would look at his numbers and call me back but never did.
...you and AEG have a hellava lot to learn when it comes to dealing with Texas folk.
Then please don't ask us for any more favors and stop calling with requests. By the way, I'm from Texas too.

Wow, don't know where to start with this one. What happened to the great job I was doing to help you guys? It was never about a quota with me, just getting you a discount without one. A lack of business understanding? How about you giving me your word the week before then doing a deal with Rudy behind my back without ever letting me know. A little heads up would have been nice, but then Rudy didn't tell me anything either because he knew exactly what he was doing when I called him everyday the following week. Oh, and by the way, was it the Texian Army that closed their own deal, or just you? I'm confused. It seems to me that you are making decisions on the Texian Army's behalf without consulting any of the board or general members. Maybe it is you who has the lack of traditional business understanding when it comes to your own group.
This will be my last post on the subject.

There is no quota, just a discount available for 113. Use it or don't, it is up to you unless you already have seats elsewhere and would likr to relocate. You can only wave a flag if you sit with the supporters. It was a special exception made only to supporters groups affiliated through the front office.

Can I start my own supporters group affiliated to the Texian Army (of course) and wave a flag somewhere else?
How about the EAST END BRIGADE?
Right now there are 2 members. My better half and I :)
I like waving flags in the morning but sometimes I like to wave them in the afternoon.:p
