Was it because Zambrano got in a fight with him? Probably. Octavio is a piece of shti. Perez last year against LA was our best defender by far...He raped Cobi. And we trade him. Does it make any sense? Nope.

One good game doesn't make a career.

Perez had way more than 1 good game for us. More like 25 good games.
Perez is such a better defender than Chronopolous, it's scary. Was OZ's plan this season to DOWNGRADE our left back position? Because that's what happened.

Yes, but only last season.
Chronopolous is much more of an attacking back. He goes forward much more often then Perez. When he goes forward, either Jolley or Petke is suppose to cover him, and they are too slow to do it, therefore the hole in the back of the defense. Same thing with Ziadie on the right side also.
BTW, Chrono didn't get burned on the second goal, he made a great tackle but was unable to control the the ball afterwards, it's not like Wolff beat him one on one.

What difference does that make? He was used mostly as a sub in 2000 and held his own. In 2001, when he became a starter and needed to step up to the plate, he did so and was a solid defender all year.
According to NE fans, Chrono has never been a good defender.

And his offensive contributions have been exactly 1 good cross in 11 games. He has 2 other bogus secondary assists that they could've given to the waterboy instead.
He doesn't contribute nearly enough to the offense to justify his defensive blunders.

Well, this could be the topic of another thread (and it has been). But, yes, I agree OZ should start to rethink his 4 back system. It's not working.

He was clearly at fault on that goal. Making a good tackle is only part of the equation, if the defender then needlessly turns it over to the other team and they score, it negates anything constructive he might have done.
Chrono walked right over the ball after he won it. It would have been comic if it hadn't been the Metros. Wolff took Chrono's "gift" and created a goal.

Chrono and Petke are getting burned repeatedly. Chrono outside and Petke to every loose ball in the box. Time for both to sit a game or two.

The reason Perez is no longer with the team is that he gave the ball away far too often in the back. He was solid in his tackling and reasonably sound in his positioning, but he gave the ball away repeatedly. He was awful with the ball at his feet.
True Chronopolos has been a horrible disappointment, but that doesn't mean that Perez would have been the answer.

I thought Perez was good and was disappointed to see him go. I thought he was better than most leftbacks in the league and although he was far from a prize--he was a solid contributor and the fact that he's relatively young in my opinion made him worth holding on to.
Sure he was mostly a sub in 2000, but he was a regular last year and Metro did a good job in purging Villegas, Serna, and other guys who sucked we were foolish to let Perez go.

If Perez was our best option in the back, whether or not we got rid of him is the least of our worries.
