I disagree. I think it was over the top and a good way for the supporter section to get patted down everytime they come in and get a lot of privileges taken away. I think it actually caused a lot of people to sneeze and irritate the eyes.
I know the idea was to grab attention but that was the wrong kind of attention. I hope you guys don't ever do that again. If you do, I am sure the Army could be disbanded.
Please don't pull a stupid stunt like that again.

T&L although you are probably right about the security issues, the fact is SMOKE has been a part of soccer culture for as long as the fans have been able to get their hands on the bombs. It is not a "stupid stunt" as you put it.
The larger the group grows the more chance there is of those things occuring and there is no way on Earth to "disband" our group without selling the team. I personally will not be bringing a smoke bomb into the section but you can bet your ass that it wont be the last time it happens whether they are a part of our group or not. If you think its stupid you should probably not be a part of it. The irritated eyes didnt bother me nearly as much as the immediate goal we gave up. As for sneezing,,,what are we in kindergarten? Who cares? Other than that, I am sure the issue of the smoke bomb will be addressed, but as the group grows, so does the intensity of the supporter. Im not saying you have to agree with it, but you should see some of the Chicago Section 8 Smoke bombs. Those guys have let off Red White And Blue Smoke Bombs all at the same time and damn near fogged out the entire stadium. Talk to those guys about stupid. It is the reality of the culture.
Other than the smoke I thought the SG was intense and and a BIG Thank you to EVERYONE!!!!

DC fans light off smokebombs pretty much every week, too. Just make sure nothing catches fire and nothing is thrown on the field and hopefully your FO wont mind :P

Wow, I hope that is not the thought of everyone in the group. This is not Europe or a Third World country in South America. This is the United States where we we bombed on 9/11 and your bag is searched at every sporting event so a suicide bomber doesn't come in the stadium or a terrorist makes their mark.
That was a childish stunt and stupid. I bet the majority of the fans would agree.
I can guarantee you if that happens again, the group will be disbanded. Why do you have to spoil the whole fan experience with something like that?

And I think you're being idiotic. As has allready been pointed out multiple times, many other MLS teams do this regularly. It's a part of soccer culture. If you want to sit around on your hands and not show passion, then go watch youth league matches, we have plenty of them in town.

1. I didnt do anything.
2. Read the post above.
3. It is common knowledge not just my opinion.
4. Are you new to the sport?
5. You cant disband a group that exists in people hearts and support for the club.
6.Deal with it and move if you dont like it. You sound like someone who expects this to be a baseball culture. It isnt Sorry. DC, Chicago, MetroStars, Galaxy, Chivas, they all let off smoke bombs. I guess those are European Cities or Third World Countries huh?
7. DON'T compare an orange smoke bomb with 9/11. That is childish and stupid.
8. I guess if another smoke bomb went off YOU would lead the charge to have us disbanded. Excellent. You are exactly the kind of "supporter" we need.
Lets have some perspective here. Like I said, I am sure it will be addressed.
Chill please.
Good Luck to you.

No I am not new to the sport. I have been involved in the sport one way or the other for 28 years and have seen pro games in Finland, Russia, Germany, Italy, Denmark, and England. I have been to World Cups. I have 8 season tickets for the season. Dropping the F bomb and lighting smoke bombs doesn't make you a bigger fan of the game.

I didnt say it did. I said it is part of the culture. Not everyone is going ot agree. Dont single me out. I am speaking here as someone who has seen it happen a million times in America. You cant stop the F Bomb. People Use it.
You cant stop the rude songs, people sing them, you cant stop the smoke bombs, people set them off. Im saying it is like trying to stop a runaway train.
It is impossible. I understand what you are saying and I agree that it might cause problems with security, I was just making the point that it is damn near impossible to stop no matter how hard you try. I am sure our officials are gooing to ask that it not happen again and I will agree. But somone completely unrelated to us could set one off and I dont want someone trying to have US disbanded for it.
Peace.

No I don't want the supporters section disbanded, I just think you don't have to use the F bomb and light smoke bombs to make an impact.
As comparing 9/11 to an orange smoke bomb, do you remember this?

"Terrorist Attack" in Toyko
Chicago, IL, March 19, 1995 --Monday morning rush hour, in Tokyo, has disintegrated into chaos, according to Japanese news and government sources. Reports of toxic fumes in a subway station began at approximately 08:17 a.m. (Tokyo time) and have quickly escalated into a major mass casualty incident. According to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police, as many as five-hundred sixty-five (565) people have been hospitalized and five people are confirmed dead.
The cause of this morning's disastrous incident continues to be one of mystery and intrigue, with a mid-morning statement that the incident was caused by a "random mass attack" perpetrated by an "unknown person or persons". Few other details were released by official sources, except another statement that Tokyo police were treating the incident as "multiple homicide investigation". No group has claimed responsibility for the heinous act.
The exact nature of the chemical involved has also remained a mystery until the time of this report. Initial reports, attributed to the Tokyo Fire Department, said that the poisonous substance was acetonitrile, an extremely toxic substance used as a fumigant and in metal treatment and photo processing. The next report, from the police department, said that there two boxes that were believed to contain Methyl Cyanide, also a very toxic chemical, that can cause rapid injury and death. The latest, unconfirmed, report speculates that a nerve gas called Sarin may be the cause of the tragic occurrence.
CONCLUSIONS
Nerve agents are in the stockpiles of several nations, and it is suspected that they may be possessed by several terrorist groups. They are an insidious way to injure or kill a large number of people in a rapid, painful, and gruesome manner. All methods of public transportation, and areas of public gathering are vulnerable.
An ERRI analysis of the incident(to the time of this report), suggests that the symptoms reported by unofficial sources, thus far, are not consistent with the nerve agent Sarin. But, that it is difficult with the limited amount of information that is currently available to firmly establish the chemical that was involved. Additionally, a chemical analysis of the scene should confirm the actual chemical used, after the proper tests have been run at a lab.
One thing is certain. If it can be established that a nerve agent was used in Japan, the extremist assault on society has intensified by another deadly degree.

Footex, I am just telling you don't be surprised if everyone with a Texian Army shirt gets the full pat down if they come in the stadium next time. I am sure that will be plenty inconvenient for everyone and I want to see you guys up in the stands, not getting delayed for 30 minutes because of a pat down.

You're absolutely right. I hardly think I deserve to called an idiot for trying to warn parents that they will hear the F-Bomb in our section and I never disagreed with you on your argument I justed posted what is happening elsewhere in the country. I mean, it isn't just a Houston problem. I dont want to be disbanded if some YAHOO in another group set off a smoke bomb.

The smoke bomb was a stupid move. This is not the time to do it. We are trying to establish a relationship with the club and with U of H. Last week they said no flares. Why would this make a smoke bomb acceptable?
Has any one considered talking to the front office to see if we could have a fire bucket provided by the U of H firehouse for safety purposes. If we worked with them this might open a door for flares at all games.
Take the proper mesures to help make this a possability. Shouting "I smell bacon is not going to help us out. Doing things like that is only going to put a target on our back.
We have a great foundation and we are having a lot of fun. Together we can make a great spectecle for all of MLS to see. We just need to go through proper channels.

I agree with that, that bit was stupid. Very stupid. But I am a fan of/ supporter of the flares and smoke bombs, I think they are awesome. Nothing is like the passion of watching a Serie A crowd with the flares and flags and smoke going off.

I though the smoke bomb was really cool..even though I was standing right next to and got slightly tear-eyed. As a supporter group we need to create as much noise and visual effects as possible, and a little smoke is defintly an eye catcher. For those of you who thought it was too much, you are more than welcome to have a seat with the soccer mom's down the field making polite conversation. So keep on bringing the smoke bombs - just down throw them on the pitch !

I will say, I don't know if it was in this thread or another one, but someone mentioned talking to the FO and getting some kind of fire bucket or something and doing it in an acceptable fashion, which I think would be something good to pursue. But I think the smoke adds greatly to the atmosphere of the game and would love to see it again if there is any way to do so and not get our rears spanked by the FO for doing so.

. . . Shouting "I smell bacon is not going to help us out. Doing things like that is only going to put a target on our back. . .Agreed. And I, too, think that things can be worked out with the FO in advance. (And folks, please don't repeat here what may or may not have been said in some dark, seedy spaceport- err... barroom environment. Some of you know who I'm talking about, and it should not be written down. Do not betray the trust.)
UoH is a separate, disinterested entity as far as the fan experience goes. They are only after the money, and any silly restrictions they put on us in general should be adhered to, at least for now. Once we have our own SSS, I can't see how things could possibly remain the same, though. There is hope. And you can't say we don't have a little luck on our side. ;)

People keep calling others stupid. Watch yourself. Ill bet you could be called stupid for a million things a day including your comments. This is a debate and discussion not a name calling session.
Smoke is a part of the culture. If our group doesnt do it, another may. It is part of the game. If you want to go on a crusade to stop it then knock yourself out but it is a losing battle. Go check Chicago, DC, LA, New York and especially Chivas. The smoke rains down all the time from different groups.
This is something that is difficult for some to understand but it hardly makes it stupid. No it wasnt me, but I thought it was an almost expected part of the atmosphere and will probably continue to be.
