Ok so my fiancee and I went to see Daredevil tongith and I've got two words to describe it... sucked balls!
I've been reading Daredevil since I was 12, so that's about 15 years now and I was SORELY disappointed in it. I enjoyed Spider-Man and loved X-Men but this heaping pile of crap left a sore taste in my mouth.
The acting was cheesy, except for Favreau. He did a great job and was some much needed relief. Affleck was ok as was Garner. Farrell, next to Favreau, was one of the stand out performances.
If you read the comic you will sit there and just cringe at the ways they ruined the story. They changed the way Murdock became blind and it added absolutely NOTHING to the story. They could have left it the original way and it would have been fine.
Also, what the hell was up with him "seeing"? They made it so he can see soundwaves in his head. It was absolutely dreadful, not to mention they have him sleeping in a metal coffin filled with water. Ughh!
I was just expecting too much, well not really but none the less. Wait for video.
I give this 1 star out of 4. blah! Kevin Smith said this was the best comic adaptation to date, he couldn't have been more WRONG!

Adding this to other things I've heard doesn't help at all.
I was afraid this was just going to be cheesy, but I might still go see it. I just hope it doesn't keep people from going to see a real film like X-Men 2.

Every time a comic is adapted to film they always change things in the comic like characters origns and stuff so I don't why you were surprised things were changed.

Everyone knows that a washed-up, alcoholic father living in near poverty in Hell's Kitchen, New York in the early parts of the last century would be seen drinking nothing less that Heineken.
Awful.

Spiderman was barely touched. Ok, it was touched, but not nearly as much as it sounds like Daredevil has been.
Superman.
how much was Batman's origin changed? Seriously.

Compared to Spidey, DD's been changed quite a bit.
It was really disappointing. :(

Dude.
Kevin Smith is a shill for Marvel comics and (as you know) a former DD writer. What's he gonna say?
Did you see the recent "Dinner for Five" on IFC? Favreau's guests were Jennifer Garner, Colin Farrell, Ben Affleck and the aforementioned Mr. Smith. So, I'm guessing that the financial backers of IFC also were backers of that movie.
Just wondering, was it so bad it wouldn't be worth renting or watching for $3 on PPV? If so, then d-a-m-n, that's bad, bro. That new Hulk movie trailer looks pretty bad, too.
As pointed out, there are exceptions to the rule, but I don't understand why the norm in Hollywood is to change the continuities of comic book characters, especially best-selling characters (whose sales prove that their fans are just fine with the comic book storylines). I'm more of a DC/Vertigo fan, and I cringe at the thought of them making movies out of Sandman (apparently coming), Green Lantern (being discussed) and Green Arrow (I think greenlit already).

Daredevil was extremely disappointing, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that it isn't worth a rental.
The X2 trailer has me excited, though. Nightcrawler - my favorite of the X-Men - looks awesome, as does Deathstrike. And they show a bit of the Colossus cameo.

I hope you're kidding. A movie about a guy in a red suit who runs real fast?
Daredevil could have been awesome, even in a red suit. But as soon as I heard Affleck I was turned off. Can he really act? And then I saw the trailer, not good. And then changing his origin so much as well as adding this stupid sleeping chamber? And being able to "see"? It doesn't sound like the movie makers thought the real version of Daredevil was cool enough.
I'm just glad my X-Men are being portrayed absolutely correctly.
oo.

I said wait for video in my original post and after a day of thinking about it I still stand by my statement.
The best thing from that movie was seeing the X2 trailer, it was amazing.
That Colossus cameo was awesome, as was knowing that Nightcrawler was going to have the German accent. That is a movie I'm eagerly awaiting.

I'd put money on it being very very good. The guy has succeeded in a wide variety of genres in a short career:
martial arts: Crouchign Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Civil War: Ride With the Devil
literary costume piece: Sense and Sensibility
adult contemporary drama: Ice Storm
...a very eclectic but good selection of movies. I'm guessing The Hulk makes him 5/5.

My feelings exactly. When I heard they were making a new movie of the Hulk comics I thought "for Pete's sake why?" but when I heard Ang Lee was directing I thought there might be hope after all.
I think his other films are good, too: Eat, Drink, Man, Woman, Pushing Hands, The Wedding Banquet. There's at least a decent chance Lee will transcend the genre.

Have you not seen the trailer? I saw a couple on Super Bowl Sunday. I've never seen a room full of people bust out laughing AT something like that before (except for guffawing at the Raiders, also that day). The CG Hulk looks pathetic, and moves in a totally herky-jerky fashion reminiscent of a monster in a Ray Harryhausen flick, just faster and, for some reason, more acrobatic.
I don't think this movie will be good just because Ang Lee's involved, either. But at least Ang Lee's movies have been marginally better than DD director Mark Steven Johnson's (wrote/directed Simon Birch, wrote The Replacements and Jack Frost...ugh), so there's hope.

No, I haven't seen the trailer for it yet, but everything I've read here and in other threads agrees with your description. So far I think the movie's basic premise sucks (the Hulk was always one of the least interesting comic book heroes out there, which says a lot) and I hear the trailer doesn't bode well either = 2 strikes. However, because I think Lee's films are not marginally but VASTLY better than Johnson's, so far, I still hold out some hope. I doubt he'd have taken the project if he wasn't planning on doing something different from the run of the mill comic-to-film exercise.
