Like I said the games are not the point... its just a way to show face and support. I'll tell you 20 bucks or even better 30 buck with my entire family for a game is not too bad. N' with that 4 votes for the Fusions return this time to were it always belonged MIAMI. I tell you anywhere near 10K(preferably for the Sat. March 8th match) for any one of these matches should stur some curiosity at the very least.
I'm doing my part for the Fusion's sake, WILL YOU?
THATS how much I miss the Fusion, period.
PS: I'll have a good time then take off and dine in Versalles or La Carreta for some good Cuban Cuisine nearby...Love it.

Mike, isn't there a minor league baseball stadium somewhere in Miami that can be converted to a soccer stadium? I thought i saw one off I-95 on one of my visits to Miami.

I will be at both MLS games at the OB. I tried to purchase tickets on Friday through Ticketmaster (I really hate dealing with Ticketmaster), and they told me the $30. family-four pack that I read about in the paper does not exist. So, this morning I called the OB. Answering machin only, but they did not say they were closed. The most recent information that they have on their machine re: coming events was from July 2002!
I know, this is a holiday, but I decided to try to drive to the OB (from Boca) and see if the ticket office was open. The security guard, (who only spoke spanish, and my spanish is limited,) indicated that they were closed for the holiday.
The final question is...... if it is this difficult to get tickets to these matches, (for someone who is really trying), how many people do you think will be as persistant in obtaining these tixs?

only a few nuts, like us...
weeknight at OB will be hard, for many.
but with the festival on Sat. night,
could be actually good. Mainly, as Hudson
put it, "the beers and hooters"... is what
would motivate me.

Hey Rocconeck,
You're wrong! It all started in the OB and if not for that SOB ,soccer-hating, wife beating ex-Miami mayor Joe Carollo they would have NEVER played in Lockhart.
Also, and most important the PB/Broward crowd already got their chance and FAILED miserably at Lockhart (even with much help from many Miami-Dade diehards like myself and others in these boards that drove for nearly an hour to get to Lockhart for each game).
So get over your "they belong in Lockhart" rhetoric. Fact is South Florida's largest soccer population base is not in Northern Broward and Palm Beach its in Miami. Soccer's largest populations in S.FL are just norht of the OB and southern Broward and south of the OB in central and southwestern Miami-Dade.
Get over the BS if you were a true Fusion fan you'd support them whether at Lockhart or the OB. Lockhart was given its chance and I drove up there from deep in Kendall now you are giving the opportunity to voice your support for the Fusion in the same region here in S.Florida and all we hear "they belong in Lockhart" and some ridiculous childish reference comparing Miami to a metropolitan area over 1000 miles away NYC.
You're no Fusion fan if you can say you enjoyed watching the great 2001 team playing in front of crouds of 6-7K...that was truly pathetic and sad. You know they deserved more.
PS: Even though the OB is cavernous I can tell you, I thoroghly enjoyed the 2 matches at the OB with 15K and 22K in the stands. Though I must admit the 2nd match was a bummer loss breaking their 12 game undefeated streak, in the OB, in front of 22K(their largest attendence ever), and against the Metrostars non-the-less.

Rocco, you may be on to something here...
I personally don't like Bruce Arena's style, especially his love for some players (Richie Williams, etc) Bruce remains because he got the job done in the WC.
Ray Hudson's style is exciting attacking futbol, the U.S. needs that type of game to attract new fans. It will be intresting to see what he does with his new DC team now that he has been able to bring in the players that he wanted. I dare say I'll be rooting for Ray's success.
In the line of successors to boring Arena I would say carismatic Ray Hudson is the best candidate.
Ok, back to the subject.
I'm not really too excited about these MLS games, I really think it will make no diffrence whether we can get 10K into the OB or not, but as long as I can take my Fusion KIT out and wear it I'll support this little venture. My problem is that none of my friends care about MLS, so I guess I'm alone on this one.
What can we do to get people intrested in this? How can we get another investors intrest? Where do we all meet? I think it would be great to get a bunch of Fusion fans out there. It'll be like old times, except with out our team.

"Rocco, you may be on to something here..."
yes ...chichi, I aso agree on that...issue.
I go to most games, and wear the Blue and Gold
all the time, from Miami to Lockhart, to the
PB Pumas, (PDL) in PB.
Go to the club, and we will plan a get together
for the xFusion fanatics, like a picnic, in the
next couple months...We had, about 30 people
at the Umbro select 2 years ago.
Last year, a few got together for the PB Pumas
season kick off, usually in late April...We can
plan something South.

Just for everyone's info...
Regarding Ray Hudson(I truly love this dude) you all are welcome to see him and other DC United players tonight as he has set up a fundraiser game for the FIU soccer team (remember the FIU athletic director eliminated the team before he had to recant his descision after he was torn apart by alumni and the media.)
FIU vs DC United at the FIU soccer stadium at 7:30 pm. Tickets are only 5 bucks and all proceeds go to the FIU soccer program... awesome!!!
See you tonight.

Hi Chichi,
Since you weren't able to be there let me give you a review of what occurred.
As far as the game is conscerned. A valient effort by the FIU squad especially this kid from Tampa Billy Bowens(#12), but the pros made it look like a cakewalk. The experiece, class, and speed for DC made FIU appear like they where driving on 2nd gear vs DC on overdrive. The score DC(Stoichkoff, E.Stewart, M. Echeverry, Ben Olson, B. Convey, Milton Nunez, et al) 3 FIU 0 and they were nice about it.
However, the game was the least of concern frankly. The crowd was great dispite the ZERO publicity. The small soccer stadium was at near capacity with many needing to part illegally cause there was no more parking left. Come to think of it, it probably was a good thing they did not publisize the event...they wouldn't have had enough space. They also had fundaising raffles and a busy "Friends of FIU soccer" booster club booth with many making personal contributions.
Interestingly, I happend to be walking around and noticed the Athletic Director Rick Mello (the one person that made the initial poor decision to eliminate men's soccer at the school without consulting FIU athletic booster or alumni)... I actually overhear him telling a collegue "nice turnout" and even more telling (and personally satisfying), watching him rubbing his chin standing back and looking at the crowd. Probably saying to himself something like this "boy did I mess up... looks like this community really cares about FIU soccer."
Also, I spoke to some insiders, they say the future seems to be positive... I just hope the programs short stint of elimination may not turn off future top prospects from coming to Florida's premier collegiate program.
After the match they had a meet the players and autographing session of DC United players... sweet!
:)
