I haven't read through all the posts, so if I repeat something that has been said already, I apologize.

As far as performance is concerned, both keepers are equal. The beginning of the year Kahn was stronger, now it is Lehmann with some great performances in the EPL and CL. So from that perspective it really doesn't matter, even though Kahn was MY preferred choice.

I think the more important question is what consequences will this decisision have for the team in general. I always believed that Kahn was well respected among his teammates, people looked up to him and he kept his defense organized! I don't know if Lehmann can bring the same qualities to the table, but we will have to see.

Lehmann has always been Klinsmann's favorite and the more he was pressed to tell (especially by Bayern) who the number one will be, the more he was leaning towards Lehmann, also to stick it to all the German soccer bigwigs like Beckenbauer and Rummenigge who wanted to see Kahn in the goal.

I believe this is yet another wrong decision by Klinsmann which will lessen our chances to bring home the cup, just like it lessened our chances when he decided not to nominate Woerns.

However, now that it's been decided I will fully support the decision because I want Germany to win! I will start out by changing my computer desktop background from Kahn to Lehmann! GO GERMANY!!!! :D

If you have watched the football for the last 2 years the answer is obvious; Lehmann is in better form. Any anti-Kahn posters claiming he has not had a magnificent and hugely effective int'l career for the NT are simply being foolish, but his drop in form is undeniable. As for those bemoaning Klinsmann's choice as the end of their WC chances, have you been watching any football as of late? Have you not seen that Lehmann is quite possibly the most in-form keeper in the world at the moment? Successive clean sheets against Real Madrid AND Juventus? A keeper like Lehmann will certainly not harm your campaign, and if failure comes it is almost certainly due to a quite mediocre side.... This decision is based upon which keeper is at the moment the best goalkeeper; not based upon the past, events more than a few years in the past. If you contest this decision, I highly doubt you have been watching all of the matches for the last 6 months....

I have and I must stress again the difference in form between club and national team level....

I am sorry but that's at the very best a bit imprecise. Do you mean that the timing of the announcement was opportunistic? His decision certainly wasn't.

And to be fair, he did get pressure from Bayern to announce it asap. You can argue that he didn't really care about it before, but the Bayern management were really precipitating this now. They certainly didn't act in Kahn's favour.

Right...the timing was of course.....in all fairness to Kahn, he could have announced this earlier or even waited if he had indeed known his decision already.

While he is gaining support from the anti-Kahn camp , he is also losing credibility from staunch DFB supporters who believe this move came at the wrong time.

so we can rest assured that klinsi isnt just making the popular vote then...

cos if the above is true, then his approval rating just dropped to 40-60! :p

It won't change my mind on the fact that Oliver Kahn is a great keeper.

Hoffentlich bekomm ich noch ne Karte fürs Eröffnungsspiel in München, ich werd ihn so auspfeiffen die Pfeife ;) :p

The Goalkeeper-Position is the only one where we have the next 15 years no Problems, when i see what for GK are growing up like Rensing, Fromlowitz or Adler, we will on this Position definatly have no problems.

We have an 17yrs old GK at Man U's Youth, i've heard he is doing there good?!

Pfeiff auf was Du willst, aber das zeigt einmal mehr wie Bayern-Fans nur Ihren Verein sehen und darauf scheissen was die Nationalmannschaft wirklich braucht.

This is a national team, and the best must play, not what munich want.

Ok, Kahn is a very good goalkeeper but not the No. 1 for Germany in the moment.
When he's a fair sportsman he accept his role and be the No. 2.
The most problems he made himself with playing when he is injured.
Remember vs. Cologne (now) and vs. Brazil (2002).
In 2002 a fair sportsman who do all for the team must say "let me out, I`m injured" but he did'nt. That costs Germany the title.
When you say he bring us in the final (surely he not alone) but with not a small percentage, you're right.

But as a team player he don`t act in the final.

I had disliked Lehman for the longest time, and even being an Arsenal homer he couldnt quite win me over. That was until this season. He has been BRILLIANT. There has been matches where the only Arsenal player that showed up to play with passion was Lehman, and he deserves all the praise he has been getting. He is a performer, and most importantly of all he is the most passionate player on the pitch. He deserves to be Germany's #1.

Well, it's true Lehmann form has been better than Olli this coiple of months.
But if I had to choose, it'd still be Olli.
Lehman's suck on his attitude. This is not good for the team as a whole.

As i said before, based on the performances
the decision is justified.
But the time is not well chosen,
one day before a BL top match
(Bremen - Bayern).

The officials were very angry about.
Klinsmann made himself too many
opponents IMHO.

I think, after the WC he will go
or will be kicked out.

I agree with Gregoriak that the timing was anything but ballsy, it was a bit opportunistic. Anyway, we will never know how long ago Klinsmann decided this. Looks like he might have decided ages ago, but I prefer to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that it's quite a recent decision based on Jens' great performances. BTW I can't find the link now, but I read an article in the Guardian suggesting to make Lehmann player of the year in the Premiership, based on his importance for Arsenal this season.

HAHA

Thats a great one and thats why Willy is Willyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy :) :D ;)

He is not praised, he is hyped and that is totally undeserved
