It's really unbelievable how much this gets talked about.
I visited my familiy today and what did we talk about? Of course the "Torwartfrage". My grandmother is a huge Lehmann fan, she was happy of course.
My mother is working part-time in the local shop in my village and she said everyone that came in yesterday, wheather it was a young woman, a kid or an old man wanted to talk about it.
It's quite crazy. You kinda feel that the WC is approaching.
that's fantastic, this is getting me in the right mood that much more.
one more question, how are the women there, in terms to football? are most women there (in their early 20's :D ) as much into football as guys are? Living here in the States, I haven't encountered one female that is into it as much as I am, and that's one of the things I'm looking most forward to in going back to Europe.

Hmm
Who ********ing cares what the FC Corruption says
If the DFB would be honest FCB would never play in german leagues again... they are cheaters, they have to be punished ... and its definately not their business who is Germanys Nr1
Better than my words.
The DFB is corruptet by FCB.
Now U. Hoeneß say that the decision with the goalkeeper was at the wrong moment (Before the Werder game).
On monday, thuesday and wednesday he want a fast decision, best in this week. Now he get what he want.
And now it's wrong. I think every point is for him a wrong cause the answer was not Kahn.
Remember the 2:2 vs. cologne, there was wrong that the question of the goalkeeper was not clear, now it is cleared and it`s wrong too.
And J. Klinsmann and his coaching is the best what the young team can get.
In the DFB management are a lot of people who had'nt recognized that the time is over with the old methods.
You will see it with the ideas thay had to make Rehhagel to NT coach.
Nothing again Rehhagel, but this is an other generation and this footballers in the German NT need other rules.
Cause the next idea was Rudi Gutendorff.
What Klinsman do is absolute right, with the coaching and training.
The young Players can play football, but the way how must be a modern way.
Not run up and down the hill, bite the grass it`s fresh, don`t ******** before the match, 10 pm is bedtime or other things that where modern in 1970.
New ideas for a young team that is the right answer, and how they had played at the confed cup you remember.
Nothing vs. Rudi Gutendorff, he has expieriance and is a good coach, but not for the German NT at the moment.

Kahn said today in a press conference,
that he wants to continue his career in the NT
and plans to take part at the WC as No.2.

"It doesn´t go about personal vanity, but about the team sucess.
The decision is made and i accept it. The team, and also Jens Lehmann
as a part of it, will get my full support."

I just hope Kahn can shake his snub off, because i think he will get some time in the posts, i can only hope. Yes Klinsi favored Jens, but this more than likely Kahn's last WC and its in front of his people. for all kahn has done for the NT of Germany, he deserves at least one match, and his form is definately not that bad so he can definately play there and be successful for the NT.

That's good style. Hats off to Kahn for this decision. I am sure that wasn't easy.

Good for Kahn!!!! That took real maturity and class. He took it like a man. I now admire him for it. It could have been easy for him to publicly pout about it, and quit. But he chose to go the smart route. This way, if Lehmann screws up or gets injured, Kahn can still step in and be a hero. But he is already stepping up by taking the news positively, and being a good example fo the team.

I little response to people claiming Klinsmann's timing was indisious/dishonest/opportunistic. Give the guy a break. Everytime Klinsi makes a decision on something that might be controversial, the camp who didn't like the decision accuses him of dishonesty or insidious motives.
Sure, with Kahn having the big blunder against Cologne and Lehmann having the great game against Juventus in the same week made it easier for Klinsi to make the public announcement on going with Lehmann as number one. But, quite frankly, I think it didn't matter when he made the announcement - many in the pro-Kahn camp would have b!tched about it regardless. Any earlier they would have said Klinsi didn't give Kahn a chance. Any later and people would have said it was too close to the WC. Klinsi couldn't win regardless, in the eyes of many.
Klinsmann is there to try to select the best possible players for the system he is trying to employ, and not to stroke people's egos. While I might agree that he hasn't handled every situation in the best possible way, I think he is doing mostly the right things - going with youth, employing an attacking style, bringing in fitness experts from the States, putting the number one 'keeper position up for grabs, bringing in his own people (Koepke instead of Sepp Maier), etc etc.
Along the way to doing all of this, Klinsmann is stepping on a lot of toes and hurting a lot of egos. But all of this stuff is needed (and continues to be needed), because prior to Klinsmann the German NT was going absolutely nowhere in a big hurry.
So people should really give the guy the benefit of the doubt - that his motives are not to screw certain individuals (read Sepp Maier, Christian Woerns, or Oliver Kahn), but to shake things up and try to get the German NT going in the right direction again. I mean, why would Klinsmann want to screw someone like Christian Woerns or Oliver Kahn? He doesn't have anything against those guys. His motive obviously has to be to do what's best for the team. Give Klinsi credit for being stubborn, resolute in his beliefs, and having the kahunas to follow through on his beliefs, regardless of intense criticism from the media and fans and certain players.
Will all of this work out? Will Germany do well at the WC this year? We'll see. But in the long run, everything Klinsmann is doing is going to help the NT program, and Germany will eventually thank him, even all those in the Woerns or Kahn camps.

for this you deserve REPUTATION!!!.
Excellent contribution!
I´m Kahn fan, however I like Klinsi and I always said and I´m still saying Germany will win the world cup. I believe in this new strategy of Klinsi.
your comment is so excellent. You should put it at kicker!.

You have to understand where the the criticism is coming from Jeff, you make great points of course and I'm sure people don't think Klinsman is out to demolish the NT but A LOT is riding on this tournament. The German public have extremely high hopes and they just don't want any decision hinder a potential homesoil success.
Of course, you can also say that living so close to Vegas, Klinsi has to be a gambling man ;)

Nah, more likely Klinsi's a surfing man (he lives in Huntington Beach, CA). That unto itself is a gamble with one's health (sharks, jelly fish, rip-tide). ;)
Yes, I know all of Germany really has it's hopes up for a good showing at the WC they are hosting, and a lot is riding on Klinsmann's decisions. Also, the Germans are quite infamous about their pessimism about the fortunes of their national teams. But that makes Klinsmann's resoluteness over his tough, controversial decisions all the more remarkable. But then again, what's the worse they can do to him, fire him? Then he can just return to his happy family life in Huntington Beach! Knowing that, I think the German NT needs Klinsmann and his stubborness and courage more than Klinsmann needs the German NT.

Very big of Kahn to commit himself to the Nationalelf as Nr. 2. God forbid something happen to Lehmann, another excellent keeper will take his place.

See, saying it like that makes it seem like coaching the NT is a burden, and something he just wants to get over with. I don't think the criticism of him not being 100% devoted to the cause will go away anytime soon.
