I was impressed with many things with last nights game.

1) Eddie Pope. I remembered telling my father one day how wonderful it would be to have him play forward. He has speed, height, but the ball skills are abit questionable. I hope it wont be the last time I see him play as a forward.

2) Salvadorean Fans. THEY BEHAVED BIG TIME. Even when Diaz Arze was here, the Salvadorean fans still mistreated females and seemed to resort to fighting each other for the hell of it. Last night was the first night EVER that a fight did not break out with a house full of El Salvadoreans. Some did cheer for United, but when ever their country man received the ball, the stadium errupted. I dont care who they cheer for as long as the Sallies can urinate in the right places and pinch the asses of only their wives, girl friends, significant other or what ever. Just not our wives, girlfriends or significant other.

3) The quantity of people in LA Norte is increasing, but the quality has gone down. This Saturday should be good since we should have some of our diehard fans comming for the All Star Match.

It is a very simple assement here. There were no problems to report last night. Now will that be the case in the future, we will see. I think the increased security needs to stay in place for the next few matches. Then we can say yes or no if it is needed at that point.

As far as I could see last night, there was only one beer thrown and that was by "Gringo Loco". We suck.

The main thing to note in this thread should be that people have obviously been overreacting to the entire ES issue. --There were no riots, fights, or orgies of public lewdness. For all of the bitching and moaning there were just a lot of people there wearing black, red, and blue. --95% were cheering for the same team. Maybe certain players on the team more then others, but that can be said for the Barra Brava, La Norte, SE's OR Salvadorians.

--Add this night to the last hispanic heritage night and you have two extreme examples of why people should take a deep breath and think before they start to rant. They also should be sending out apologies for all the crap that was said about Quintanillia. He was easily one the best players in on the field.

--I don't know what the future holds for the entire issue, but based on last night a lot of people around here were proven wrong.

May I buy you a beer to throw on me? Even when we had Arce, I always heard them talking crap to the Bolivians. Now we have to keep this new player, good or bad, or we'll pay for it. When they want to be DC United fans, I'll welcome them. But as long as they want to be El Salvador fans only (and therefore anti-United) they can F off.

This applies, of course, only to the a-hole fair-weather fans, not the positive supporters.
ride on! ride on! this is turning the mls into equal playing opportunity league...This is why united is the worst team in the league! Why don't we just get 11 salvadorans here and forget about improving our homegrown boys.

I dunno etcheverrito, but maybe they picked up Quintanilla because...

-he is better than Lassiter

-he is better than Curtis

-he is young and will improve

-he doesn't count as a full SI, and won't for a couple years

But having said that, yes, I think we should cut Quintanilla and work on developing Dennis Ludwig:rolleyes:

McOwen, to be fair to the skeptics/critics of the whole deal, I don't think they were worried so much about when there is an El S player ON the team, it's if/when the player eventually has to LEAVE.

If DCU has to cut or trade him for business or performance reasons, there is a worry that we might see a repeat of the RDA trouble all over again.

And of course we can't know what will happen until that day comes.

I for one hope that Q2 plays for United until he's 35 and that he gets 15 goals and 10 assists every year.

So we all have our jobs cut out for us until Q2 leaves... and that's to be as welcoming and friendly as we can to those new fans who are ES player specific and convert them into DC United fans. Then maybe we won't have the problems some worry about.

I was very pleased with the way things went last night... including having some ES fans come down into the SE section where I was during the second half. I made sure they knew I was happy they were there.

Well, he might be better than curtis, but curtis is american...we are not here to develop CONCACAF players so that they can spit on us, throw bags of piss on us or have them show up at our stadiums to do the same...
I rather see curtis develop into a better players as well as I like to see quintanilaa to improve but not at the expense of a young american player.

Lassiter has to go!!!

Q2 is a good talent, but his speed is what will keep him from playing in ellite teams in Europe. I thought Diaz Arce was slow, this kid makes Arce look fast. The kid will fit more as a midfielder then a forward. He holds the ball well and distributes pretty good. His speed is not enough to burn defenders. Curtis and Lassiter do not have the ball skills of Q2, but they can burn defenders and jump over them as well.

He had a good game though, I hope he continues to play well.

I was chief among those concerned, and I was the first to point out that things turned out well. But I don't retract one iota of what I said before: there was virtually 100% consistency in the earlier games featuring Salvadorans. I don't feel I overreacted in the least-- by signing Q2, United was repeating an action that previously resulted in a great deal of violence, public lewdness, and significant fan defections.

This was BY FAR the best environment I can remember at RFK in a game with a Salvadoran either on the team or on the opposing team. It was the exception, NOT the rule. It's one thing to accept the possibility that a good environment could happen, it's another to assume that it would happen in contradiction of every scrap of evidence we had before.

And while I appreciate Darryl's defense, no-- my concern was about now, not about the future after Q2 is traded or released. Some of the worst situations I (and some others I've spoken with) have confronted in RFK were while RDA was playing for United, not after his release.

So again, I withdraw none of my earlier comments. And I'm still not inviting my wife and child to games until I see another few peaceful games. But it is precisely because this was the completely unexpected and "unexpectable" exception to the rule that it is so very welcome. I felt a great deal of joy seeing how well everything went off, and if this continues, I'm thrilled to see a new, positive group of fans.

I agree, let's see what happens after 4 or 5 matches. Then we can say one way or another.
