Are you saying the quote in another thread saying that it was stated that no decision has been made is not true?

He is saying "trust me".

Just like he said to the person who told him information in confidence...

If that is true:mad: MLSE blew it big time. There had to be a better name then that?

They also have the trademark rights to the Toronto Northmen and the Toronto FC names. a list of trademarks can be found very easily if you want to see the details but you ll have to search for that via google. enjoy.
I am still willing to bet that they change names at least 2 times before the end of this week. Houston anyone?

I'm willing to bet that they don't announce jack until the All-Star Game.

Here's the latest on this from the Toronto Star:-

In summary nothing decided yet on the name and website will be up in a couple of weeks according to Richard Peddie the CEO of MLSE.

Glad to hear some rationalisation of the story from Peddie. At least that is a decent source and it is in line with mlstoronto. Its interesting however, that the selection of a club name is related to rallying the national community from the origins of that team (in this case Italy) whereby in actuality it would probably have the opposite effect. There seems to be a hint of a lack of understanding as to the depth of feeling between fans of European soccer clubs.:(

Whois (http://www.whois.com/) shows that domain names intertoronto.com, torontofc.com and fctoronto.com are all taken. At this point they link to nothing.

torontonorthmen and torontointer are available.

The availability of 'northmen' this close to an announcement would argue against that being in the name.

Glad to hear some rationalisation of the story from Peddie. You're joking, right? I mean, you don't actually believe the president and CEO of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment would be unaware of what team names Major League Soccer had sought to register on behalf of MLSE's expansion soccer franchise, do you? IF that were true, it would be a sad commentary on the professionalism of both Major League Soccer and Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment.

No. This is a case of Richard Peddie lying through his teeth for one of two reasons:

1) He's buying time to develop a new name for the soccer team now that a significant number of Toronto soccer enthusiasts have voiced their displeasure with the "Inter Toronto FC" identity that both MLS and MLSE apparently thought was so great.

2) He's avoiding having to confirm that Toronto's MLS franchise will, in fact, be branded "Inter Toronto FC" until such time as something (the team's logo... the team's uniforms... the fact that the team has been formally introduced...) can potentially overcome fan objections to the name.

"Peddie said he didn't know anything about what team names the MLS had sought to register in the U.S." Give me a f***ing break! That's ludicrous.

It was registered back in January by Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment.

It was registered back in January by Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment.I think all these trademark and domain registration of a shortlist of possible names may be merely an attempt by MLSE to avoid extortion by others preempting them.

Don't worry if you don't like the first name they pick for your team, all you have to do is wait a few weeks and it will change :)

For your sake - I hope not. Here's hoping the first name they pick is the one that sticks (unless it's Toronto T-Rexes or something silly like that).

Good luck!

How do you type with your mittens on?

The name is horrible. I think MLSE is learning that now. If not (ARE YOU READING mlsintoronto?) they should go for a walk on College St. and ask the people watching serie A what they think of it...pay close attention to the answer AC Milan supporters give you.

Blizzards. It's a stupid name, but it's our stupid name.
