As said here often enough the netherlands and England.
I think this is a result of the football history of he last decades ( perhabs also other parts of our common history).
The netherlands still believes that they had the better team at 1974.
In my oppinion there is nothing better than reading english newspapers before and after a bigger tournament. In the complete history of football they reached one final and this is 40 years ago but they still believe that england is at the top of the football nations. The comments about germany and the german national team in the english yellow press are often more than just funny. They would still talk about the final in 2002 today if they were able to reach it but instead they have to talk about the 5:1 victory the only thing they won against our team in the last fourty years.

In fairness these are just the really bad English newspapers though. You don't normally get this kind of rubbish in the Guardian or the Independent. I still remember being pleased about some very neutral articles in the Guardian before WC 1998. They even published an article 'Why Germany are more successful than us.', etc.

In my opinion I still think that England and Holland are Germany's biggest rivals. The reason this is, is because the English and Dutch have no respect for Germany. Their still bitter about the war. They view football games vs. Germany as their Holy Wars, even though history has shown they rarely prevail against Germany. What's funny is most Germans respect England and are fond of England, but the feeling is not mutual. The English have an obsession with Germany, there the ones that drive this rivalary. They would rather beat us than anyone. Someone said why arn't Argentina and Italy rivals of Germany? Because there is mutual respect. I always here the NT's of Argentina and Italy say how "Alemania" and "Germania" are always a force to be reckoned with. As for who I say should be our rivals, that is a simple question Brazil. I hate Brazil probably because they always beat us. I would sell my soul to see Germany triumph over the Samba Boys. The reason this rivalary could be great is because we are the most successful footballing nations ever. One more point I want to make is it is, your not a knowledgable football fan if you are German wearing an England jersey, you would never see a Englishman wear DFB apparel. Why wear the jersey of a people who hate us? Wearing a Brazil jersey is silly, their just bandwagon fans who support Brazil because of its 5 World titles and legacy of success. What trendy folks!
P.S. Shawn "Puffy" Combs only wore the DFB track jacket at the NBA All-Star game to be fashionable. He knows nothing about Football. I wouldn't be proud of this. It makes me not want to wear this jacket which is a shame because I am a true fan, not a superficial fake

Which, in reality, is a very dumb reason to hate a football team

Yes, and it's not true. Saying that the English are still bitter about the war just shows a complete lack of knowledge about England. Sure, people in England and Holland take the piss out of us Germans (sometimes not so undeserved, as some Germans could be more witty sometimes compared with the English), but there is certainly no lack of respect.

I know that it was more or less a joke.:)
my friend and colleague next door is from england and he is wearing a england shirt for weeks and month now while i have a Beckham penalty screensaver and invite him to watch the greatest matches germany vs england from 1970 to 1996 or to practice penalty shooting after work. So it is really funny.
beside Brazil every country would be happy to have such a record as germany and there are reasons why we are able to reach a final with a poor team and others donīt. This was not only true in 2002. Someone should look at the discussions 86 and a lot of other championships.
It was always good for germany when everybody believes we have no chance and a bad team. This time i would agree we have no real chance and a bad team but in some ways we do not need world class players to play a good WC.
But i wonder why he and his fellow countrymen are always so confident. You could often read more or less the same comments like "this time it is englands year" and so on but it never happens. Somebody should imagine the german press and fans in the same situation.

Truer words are rarely posted here.
My hatred of Mexico is completely confined to football and a result of their arrogance. It has nothing to do with the people, culture, history or anything else.
That other countries have a rivalry with Germany because of the war is really dumb. They can hate Germany for its crimes against football hairstyle fashion, but not the war.

Well as much as I would like to think the world has moved on, I don't think you can just say it's a bad reason. Though I agree with the "let's move on folks" sentiment. I still know some older generation people who refuse to buy Japanese products to this day. In Europe you still have the a couple generations of people who either lost a father, mother, relatives, etc.... I would even expect some Germans to hate Americans and the English for the bombing raids. Who knows?
What I find interesting, is that the "war reasons" mostly come from Holland and England and not from places like Poland and Russia. Maybe I just haven't seen it???? Someone enlighten me on that if that is not true.

why should be USA our rival?..you know that USA is my second favorite team...and I have some USMNT jersey....USA is not our rivarly...I think rivarly is more between european countries where soccer has more tradition....especially in big soccer nations like Germany, Holland, England ..

I wasn't saying that the US is a rival. I was addressing the fact that some people, because of the war, may still hate some countries/teams. The US has one rival at the moment... Mexico.

I must point something out, the Germans are took the piss out off in Calsberg adverts and The Sun whenever a major tournoment comes around. But not many people think they have horns. There's alot of 1+1=11 in this thread.

we already played in Finale in 1974...and Germany won..
it will hurt us especially if Holland win the world cup in Germany...
