I suppose: Kringe leftback and Sahin in midfield
Kringe didn't play well there last season.
Bei unserem Glück verletzt sich Dede am Samstag...
I hope our luck isn't that bad.......

Just unbelievable......
Well, this one wasn't suffered at training or in a match, but I wonder if the beating he takes at training and in matches played a role in the injury?
Anyhow, you should have seen my "Crazy Bielefeld Raid" plan on the e-mail list! LOL!! ;)

Valdez I think is out for 3 weeks
That's the word right now.
I think Valdez needs the break. I believe he's pressing too hard. I don't mind a player putting pressure on himself, but Valdez, while working like a madman, I think is trying too much to justify his purchase. I think he needs to step back, relax and let his game flow upon his return. He'll score if he lets the action flow to him.

As you might know, I've never been a big fan of Valdez. Problem is, I don't like Smolarek's play either. Just last Saturday, I almost went mad when I saw him DIVING like that. But as I said in the last discussion, I will support every BVB player though and I can do that soon since I will probably be in Gladbach on Friday.

I can go with that. Problem is, we don't have anyone else better...... :(

this is true - even as the sole supporter of Ebi on this board, I will concede this....interestingly enough - while he was at Feyenoord - his "cristiano ronaldo impressions" were at minimum - since his move to BL - he has been falling a lot more - most likely due to the fact that he is one of the smallest strikers in BL coupled with the fact that BL defenders are more physical than in Eredivise
Valdez is STILL utter garbage imo.....but as long as he dons a BVB shirt - i will be for him....sadly

You're not "the sole supporter of Ebi" on this board. You are the sole BLIND supporter of Ebi on this board!

Good points, but on Saturday, he was diving.

If Valdez is "utter garbage" then I guess Smolarek must be "utter crap", because BvM is clear on which he believes to be better for this team......

I am a blind supporter?....right! - cause you are Captain Level-Head on this board - a lot of your posts are not fueled by your so-called passion, but objectively speaking, they sound more like profane rage with a wit of a rubber spoon....
btw...for future reference - just because you offer loads of posts, or capitalize certain phrases - does not make you right....
as you may be aware - opinions are like assholes - everyone has them
cheers

My rep count speaks for itself. And I still stand by the comment that you're the only one here who seems to think Ebi Smolarek walks on water.
We both actually want him to do well. We just don't support "him" at the same level.

rep?? - perhaps....your arrogance
regarding the dead horse (Ebi) - I was not aware that defending one of my fav players amounted to blind worship?.....when you are tearing him apart with countless posts - where imo - is not warranted - besides, I never questioned the fact that Ebi's form was significantly off - but to angrily blame him for BVB's downfall - as you have many times - is just ridiculous
cheers
on a side note - when do you start writing for Kicker?

Well, seeing that you're about the only one I have this type of problem with, I'm fairly secure in my standing here.

That's what I'm talking about. I never "blamed Smolarek for BVB's 'downfall.'" What downfall? BVB's true "downfall" occurred before Smolarek ever got there.
If you mean I blamed his lack of finishing in the second half of the season for our not making the UEFA Cup, you're goddamned right I still stand by that!
You talked about Smolarek like he was some kind of "football god" for scoring 13 goals last season and I pointed out that he had a heck of a first half of the season but has been mostly crap since.
And I backed up my opinion with the facts.
All I've seen you do is bitch and complain because:
a) I pointed out the fact that Smolarek has been mostly garbage since week 11 of last season AND BACKED IT UP.
and
b) About the way I choose to express myself.
I'm free to express myself however I choose within the rules of this board. I've done so.
Now, when you can back your position with facts, I'll be happy to either respond in kind, agree with you, or just say "agree to disagree."
However, in this case, I've proved my points and backed them up with the numbers. You've proved nothing except you seem to be someone who refuses to acknowledge Smolarek's faults.
I didn't have to come to that conclusion on my own.
That was done for me when one of the moderators, a Smolarek fan himself, told you yes, he thought I was being a bit harsh in my comments, BUT he also couldn't see where I said anything dishonest OR incorrect about Smolarek.
For the record, Ebi Smolarek was one of the few BVB players whose performance I had no complaints about on Friday. I thought he did all right. I could easily see why Valdez plays ahead of him, but I had zero complaints about Smolarek's performance.
Smolarek didn't miss the chances on Friday, Frei did. And I said on the other thread that "Frei f#cking sucked!"
When Frei continually misses 100% chances that costs the team points and places in the standings, I'll be saying the same shit about him.
And that's exactly what Ebi Smolarek did in the second half of last season.
Now, on the other hand, Smolarek did all he could on Friday and showed the emotion on his one good goal chance I wish the rest of the team had.
Ebi made a good shot that Keller was just equal to.
But it wasn't enough to say, "The Ebi from the first half of last season is back!"
I think he'll need a match against Wolfsburg for that. After all, he always seems to score against them. :)
And we need that Ebi back.
No matter how much we disagree on general opinion of Smolarek, I'm sure we can agree that we need "that" Ebi back.....
Like I closed another mail, I may write like I hate the guy, but I don't. I want him back on form and I wouldn't even blame him for wanting to leave at the winterpause if BvM doesn't play him. I even think a change of scenery might do him good and I would cheer for him wherever he goes unless it's to a club I hate.
But don't expect me to turn a blind eye to his failures of the majority of last season. I won't do that. They cost us entirely too much and the only reason he kept playing was because we had no one better. He knows that's why BVB bought two new "starting caliber" strikers instead of just one.
I know that's not the entire story. However, had he scored a few of those 13 goals in the second half to secure some points, we're not having this conversation.
Especially due to the fact that in most of those matches, Smolarek had some of the most spectacular open net misses this side of Jan Koller. I can't turn a blind eye to that fact. And anyone who watched BVB last season knows what I'm talking about.
The fact is, Ebi Smolarek was so spectacularly awful in the second half of last season, it can't not be mentioned. Sure, he had 13 goals, but ZERO when the team needed it's best striker the most.
I just can't turn a blind eye to that man.
Sorry. :o

Kicker reports that Frei tore a muscle in his left thigh against Hannover on Friday night and will be out for two weeks.
During the Arena telecast, they had a halftime interview with Nelson Valdez, who thinks he'll be available this coming weekend in Cottbus.
So, we may finally get to see what Valdez and Smolarek can do together.
Wouldn't it be funny if they are the best strike partnership for BVB??? :)

And while Dormtund newspapers are talking about Frei missing 2-3 weeks, news from Switzerland (where Frei is with his national team at th moment) are that he is doubtful for their clash with Austria. Sounds like the injury isn't that serious. Maybe he will be fit for Cottbus. That would give BvM some more choices up front.

I wouldn't play Frei unless he's 100%. I think Cottbus is the perfect match to see what Smolarek and Valdez can do together.
