View Full Version : How will they handle resales in May?

If I'm getting this straight, transfers can be accepted later on as long as the tickets are brought back to one of the exchange centers with a copy of the passport or the actual orderer of the tickets. What I wonder, is what about people who put their tickets up for resale after the tickets are printed and mailed out? It's one thing to set the new buyer up with new tickets, but the reseller will have in possession official tickets, which the RFD chip will say is no good, but what's to stop that person from then going ahead and reselling what are now worthless tickets? It's one thing to show up at the gate, get an unlikely ID check and explaining why it's not in your name and getting let into the stadium. Quite another to drop a couple grand on England tickjets and told these tickets were already resold. Anybody remember how this was handled in previous competitions?

I'm sure I read that you will have to post your original tickets back to them, until they recieve them, they will not release the money back to you.
I'm sure the tickets are also made dud - still leaves it open for people to forfeit the money and go and sell dud tickets for more. Although they probably wouldn't print the new tickets until they recieved the originals either.

Yes, I was wondering about this.

It occurred to me that this would be just the sort of thing, if publicised, that really *could* kill the black market. So, the Organising Committee would have made it clear that this was happening, if it was, then there would be much less chance of scalping.

Make sense?

Therefore I assume that the replacement tickets don't get sold until the originals have been returned. Maybe?

(By the way, are you sure you haven't got any England tix? ;) )

Well thats the whole reason why FIFA is saying dont buy from the blackmarket as it could be an expired ticket... since there is a chip I doubt you will have to return it...

Even here in ny - when the euro clubs came on tour the barcode was scanned for entrance - they were broadcasting loudly outside giant stadium warning people not to buy from each other as it could be an invalid (used) ticket and you can lose a lot of money...

Doesn't matter about the chip - FIFA have definately stated that tickets will need to be posted back and until recieved, no refund and no new tickets will be issued.

Just can't remember where I read it.

You can also report lost tickets... then you dont need to ship them back to get a new pair... bottom line is be careful in buying and also swapping... it would suck to be turned away at the gate...

Totally agree.

However when you look at how they have been with the transfering of tickets, I can't see them simply shipping you out a new ticket nice and easily. Have you seen anything thats "nice and easy" in any of this. Got me close to not wanting to go!!

I read somewhere on the site that tickets need to be exchanged when the new tickets are picked up.

The only two reasons I can imagine someone not getting in through the turnstiles is if someone uses a fake ticket or if Fifa was notified of the ticket being stolen and Fifa deactivating the chip.

From May 1st on, a transfer would be done at a ticketing boot in the city where the game is played (not on matchday BTW.) I'm will try to look it up on the FIFA site.

In case of a resale tickets will probably have to be sent back.

FIFA customer service page:

Sending tickets back

If you have already received your tickets or if your tickets are being printed at the time of the sale via the resale platform or if they are in the mail, the tickets must be sent back to the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ Ticketing Center before the purchase price can be credited.

If you are asked to collect your tickets at the Stadium Ticket Center when you buy them, you need not do anything more in the event of a return: if resale is successful, the correct number of tickets is automatically deposited for you at the stadium and you will be given a credit as described above.

Exchange of tickets already printed

If you have already received your tickets or if your tickets have already been printed at the time of the application for a transfer or are already in the post, you must exchange the tickets received before entering the stadium at one of the twelve Stadium Ticket Centers of FIFA WM 2006™. This is only possible in the Stadium Ticket Centers in question on days without a game. The tickets already sent to you are blocked for entry by transfer to other persons.

Only the orderer or a person authorised by him in writing is entitled to exchange the old ticket against the one issued for the new spectator. The orderer must be able to prove his identity. An attorney must produce not only the power of attorney and the ticket to be replaced, but also a copy of the orderer's identity card or passport.
If, when buying the tickets, you are asked to collect your tickets at the Stadium Ticket Center, you will automatically be given the tickets transferred to another person upon collection.
