If some of you have been keeping up with the recent news in the NYC area or you were going to get to it after the end of the French League season. The Austrian based firm of Red Bull energy drink have purchased the MetroStars and renamed it the NY Red Bulls. Or If you perfer Red Bull New York that's fine as well.
Team Captain Youri Djorkaeff was interviewed about the change.

I have to admit that I was surprised this happened so quickly, but I am here to tell you good folks that when the season starts on Sunday, April 2nd I will report to you the actions of Youri Djorkaeff & the New York Red Bulls. New Football jerseys will be available I understand before the home opener on Saturday, April 8th since the club recalled all the old Metros jerseys ( Sadly those were the best since last seasons)
Take care everyone and good luck to your clubs and I hope they all have a strong finish to the end.

I'm not native english speaker, but i have the feeling that this name, "New York Red Bulls", sounds pretty lame. "Red Bulls" ??? I know that a corporate brave enough to put money in american soccer must be encouraged, but they should have taken a name relevant with the city culture.
Metro => big city => New York : OK.
But "red bulls" ??? Red Bulls San Antonio, Houston Red Bulls, why not. But "New York Red Bulls" ?? Since when do you have a cow-boy background ?
Off course, since the owner is Austrian, I guess it's better than :
- New York Lederhosens

- New York Oompah Boyz :

- New York Yankee Yodelers...
In this last case, you need someone to sing the anthem. Check this :

Could have been worse, could have been called Krating Daeng New York.
In Thailand its medicinal and not a yuppie drink.
Its used as a pick-me-up.

WOW ! Two F1 teams, one MLS team and numerous racing teams and projects around the world...It's good to be the king of taurine (http://www.answers.com/topic/taurine?method=22) energy drink.

Honestly it took me a good while to stomach it myself. But if this is a good sign then maybe it will turn the corner and better luck will come.
By the way the construction of the new football grounds will start this coming August on the 15th. Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ. It will be ready for a Spring 2008 opening. If you are staying in NY you can take the Metro called PATH from 33rd Street between 6th & Broadway to Newark, NJ. 2nd to last stop is Harrison and it's only a 1000 foot walk to the new grounds.
Talk to you folks after the April 2nd match.

The New York Bulls would have sounded mildly tolerable.
Even though the Bulls are synonymous with Chicago.
I can also think of a gizillion different worst drinks they could have been sponsored by.

It still isn't as bad as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (as opposed to regular, plain ducks). Oh wait, now they're just the Anaheim Ducks, not so mighty anymore, I suppose...

This is just depressing. teams named after products. WTF?
where's the myth of sports now that's all about branding and crass capitalist promotion?
MetroStars was a million times better.

RED BULL TOOK A LEAD AT HALF BUT ENDED THE DAY WITH A DRAW
Youri Djorkaeff gets fouled from about 35 yards away from the DC net and RBNY earned a free kick and what free kick it was. Hell it could have been 40yds away when Djorkaeff struck the ball and it bent inside the near post and past the diving keeper in the 15th minute. That wonderful strike should be Goal of the Week. New striker Edson Buddle (His father named him after Pele's real name) was infront of the keeper when he couldn't handle a Seth Stammler cross in the 18th minute & Buddle smacks it home.
But sadly early in the 2nd half DC was able to get two goals of their own and US International Keeper Tony Meola was able to stop United from earning the match winner. But the big goal has to be by Youri Djorkaeff. Still amazed he can rip it from that distance and nail the net.

Yep. That's the road one. The Home one will be all red with white shorts & red socks.
I know, I know. The big arse Red Bull logo isn't great, but it is what it is.

Shame, I liked the AC Milanesque kit they used to wear.
They did a similar thing with Salzburg, ruining the kits.

The company's blue and silver colours would look more palatable. Or, since it's NY, they could have similar kits as the French NT.

WHAT A SHOT. That is amazing. MLS needs more of that.
Notice how the fans weren't that excited though. :( That is what is truely poor.
