I'm opening this thread here because if i ask this question in Mexicos forum, my guess is the Mods (like they have the habit there) will dive on me saying i'm trolling and immediately delete my posts
Mexican posters seem to hate Lavolpes guts. Is it because he's calling 2 naturalized players in the NT like i read ?
Where are these players from ?
When did they get their naturalization ?
If the 2 mentioned players have been recently naturalized so they can get called, then i understand. I would've been pissed off too if that happened with Team Melli.
Or is it because he makes lousy choises in general ?
Some mexican posters are praying your NT to get 3 losses so Lavolpe will get sacked :D

It is because he's calling to naturalized but the main reason is just that everyone's pissed cuz he didnt call Cuauhtemoc Blanco so everyone just start bringing up the naturalizados as an excuse to hate him...Aguirre in 2002 took a naturalized player too
Sinha is from Brazil and Guillermo Franco it's from Argentina, Sinha got naturalized 2-3 years ago and Franco a couple of years ago..
Or is it because he makes lousy choises in general ?
mainly cuz of Blanco

Lavolpe will get sacked if he doesn't make to quarters...

It is partly because of the naturalized players, and the other part the stupid choices he has made in the whole selection. Basically choosing favorites and family. Aside from that, wasting four years with the unconditionally backup fro the FMF and saying that it was all in the process to have the best team possible. The hell with him.

He chooses players related to him ! This sucks.
About choosing favorites, i guess this happens in most NT. A lot of Iranians do'nt want Ali Daie because of his age and his performances. He continues to play the full 90 minutes in every game.

La Volpe has invited two naturalized citizens to the Mexican NT, and he gets slammed for it. Heck, that's nothing compared to what's going on in Iran. After Branko Ivankovic invited an Iranian born outside of Iran (Zandi), he was slammed by the tablolid like media in Iran, and the poor guy was Iranian to start with, only born outside the country. After his performance on Team Melli he was praised by even those who had dissed him.
Then Branko mentioned something about perhaps inviting more Iranian players who play abroad to the next camp (there are about 50 playing in Europe's various leagues). Then the criticism just took off on a wild tangent. The poor guy stopped inviting more legionaires, or even talking about it any more. Of course the loser is the team, since no other talented players could be tested.
All I have to say is remember Ibrahimovic and how he was dissed by the Bosnian football federation.
Mexico's case is a bit different, but the idea is the same. If a player is good enough to be on the NT, then he should be invited. Naturalized citizens should not be discriminated against in my opinion.

This issues has been on overkill since LaTorpe took over the Mexican NT.
The problem was not that La Torpe called on Naturalized players. Aguirre, which is a Mexican Deity now called an Argentine-born Caballero becuase he had played on his championship team at Pachuca. Only the real hardcore xenophobes complained about Zinha (Antonio Naelson, born in Brazil), average people like myself know that as a Naturalized citizen of Mexico Zinha deserves everything a mexican-born citizen is entitled including a spot to represent Mexico.
The problem with LaTorpe is that he chose an Argentine (Guille Franco) who decided to naturalize and have a shot at the Mex NT after realizing that hes getting older and Argentina was not going to call him and his Mexico was his only option. People who know, whether they admit it or not, that Franco was upset that Argentina refused to cap him for anything. Also, LaTorpe attempted to persuade another Argentine (Gaitan) to naturalized so that he could put him on the team. Thats why people hate him.
From the beginning LaTorpe has said that Mexico does not have any forwards so he must go for naturalized. Then when people were angry he says he just said that to inspire Mexican forwards, then weeks later from Argentina, caps Guille Franco. I guaranteed you that any NT coach who uses naturalized players did not go on the record and say "your natural born players are no good so i must go look elsewhere"
Somebody mentioned him not capping Blanco as to why people hate him, to that i say when asked why he didnt use Blanco, he said (paraphrased) "Blanco is one of the best and he doesnt need to prove himself, so im using the friendlies to see others." As time progress, he changed it to "Blanco is no good thats why i dont call him, he needs to prove to me" And now LaTorpe caps his son-in-law who hasnt even been a regular on his club team.

Ok. I understand all the hate and anger now !
I can't say how much i hate it when players change their nationalty when they do'nt have a chance with their own NT. Or for money. Remember the Qatar NT trying to recruit players offering them a million or dollars.
LOL But Lavolpe is scum ! Caping his son in law when he's not even playing in his club  He has some nerve !

Only the real xenophobes or nativist really complained about Brazilian-born Zinha, but majority were ok, he had naturalized before any chance of being on the Mex NT team. And Zinha was young when he arrived to Mexico and stayed since. Franco on the other hand arrived an established player from Argentina and his chances of a world cup were fading quickly, cant say i blame him but definately LaTorpe.

He even capped Claudio Suarez, a 4O-something defender close to retiring. This guy hasnt been in the process in a long time. In fact, this last friendly against Paraguay he was capped, finally breaking or tying (depending on the source) the all-time world record for more appearances on a National Team.

Thanks for the well written explanation, I didn't know the details. I see why some fans are pissed off now. On the surface it looks as if he's not being honest with the fans. Some of that is necessary (politics). But when it translates into inviting your own son in law instead of a Blanko like player, then people will have all the weapons needed to slam him.
Why do you call him "La Torpe"? What does that mean?

Yes, that was Ailton who plays for Hamburg now. At the time he was Bundesliga's best goal getter.

Youre welcome, Im sure others (especially LaTorpe apologist) might give you a different perspective but the events did occur. And i really believe that if Franco wouldve naturalized without making so much noise about Argentina and if La Torpe wouldve capped without first saying that Mexico had no forwards so he has to look elsewhere there probably wouldnt have been a major problem. Franco is a good forward, but thats not the issue.
BTW, Torpe means clumsy or dumb.

One last question. Did Lavolpe have the nerve of keeping his son in law in the last 23 ?
