SOCCER SPAT ENDS IN SLAY (http://www.nypost.com/news/regionalnews/61928.htm)
Shot dead after row at soccer (http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/405425p-343281c.html)
Repeat after me, "It's only a game. It's only a game. It's only a game. ..."
As a player since a kid and a referee for 20 years, I've seen some good dust-ups. (Even started one or two. ;) ) I've had a shoulder and a knee f'ked up, but I can't imagine what would lead a player to retaliate like this.

that is pretty crazy.
this past summer I played a team from NY.. team of all immigrants(russians/ukrainians) and I'm not saying my team was behaving properly, but they were really insane. a teammate of mine slide to keep a ball going from out of bounds, and a guy on the other team slide/stomped on him with metal studs- which in about 10 minutes resulted in a full out brawl on the field, including their coach(who was like, 6'5" 280 lbs) picking up one of our players and throwing him to the ground. the next day of the tournament, we almost got in another fight with them.. we were playing a team from maryland, and I drilled a ball out for a corner kick, hitting a player from the team we got in a fight with(the team was warming up a little bit from our field).

That's terrible! I can't imagine! I only play youth rec soccer, so nothing like that ever happens! Although, a girl on a team I played against apparently broke one of my teammate's noses last year. (Not purposely, but that same girl tripped and fell on me really hard, and then later laughed and said in a really fake "sweet" voice that she'd never hurt anyone on purpose. Scary...)

yeah that stuff happens all the time here in greece, always riots and stuff, fatality is prettty intense though.
I didnt think it got that outta hand with football in the states, but it seems to be the immigrants so i guess its just the same ppl but in a different area.
I've been to Panathinaikos - Olympiakos derby and the hatred between fans is umcomprehensible. visitors arent allowed anymore it just gets outta hand now, stadiums destroyed, fans injured and killed.
theres no way to stop it, you cant calm them down you cant do anything to stop the rage.
I've seen a supporter in a wheel chair get attacked by 5 guys, at the same time a man who supported the same team as the 5 guys tried to stop them because that poor bastard was in a wheelchair, but the 5 guys just started bashing him as well!
its absolute outrageous. but I have to admit I love the passion:D
