I do have a question. I may be heading to Gotenburg for a few months starting in April. What team is based out of there? I look forward to attending a few matches.

IFK Göteborg, nicknamed "Änglarna" (The angels) and "Blåvitt" (blue/white) is the most famous club, twice winner of the UEFA Cup. They play their homegames at the Ullevi Stadium, but European Cup games or games against attractive opponents are played at the bigger New Ullevi Stadium. Smaller clubs like GAIS and Västra Frölunda are also from Gothenburg.

Well, IFK Göteborg might be the most famous club and have the largest following but the best club in Gothenburg is without question Örgryte IS, who finished third in Allsvenskan last year, while IFK had to take part in a play off (against Västra Frölunda) to even stay in the top flight. Örgryte (or ÖIS) also beat their rivals in both derby games last season 2-1 and 5-2.

Örgyte and IFK share "old" Ullevi stadium which is a rather run down stadium, Gothenburgs third "big" club GAIS also plays at Ullevi but GAIS are really bad at the moment and plays in divison 2(level 3).

If you are in Gothenburg in May then the derby game between IFK and ÖIS the 27th is definiatelly is worth watching, these games has really heated up since Örgryte has taken over as Gothenburgs top club and last year the derbies drew attendances around 40 000. These games are played at New Ullevi stadium.
Normally IFK has 8-9 000 at their home games and Örgryte 5-6 000.

Here is the schedule for Allsvenskan 2003

Thank you so much for the information. I look forward to seeing some matches in Sweden even though I'll miss an opportunity to see the Burn play this year.
