Yeah, I think I was 12 at the time... possibly 11, can't recall if I'd started algebra yet. The ACT is used more by schools in the midwest portions of the US, basically similar to the math and verbal portions of the SAT, but adds reading comprehension (separate from the English grammar section) and a basic science portion.

Also the South.

I have family in donegal -Which beach were u on?

Killyhoey (Dunfanaghy) last year, Portsalon the year before that, Downings the year before that - where, incidentally, the Taoiseach (Prime Minister) Bertie Ahern goes for his holidays. I've also spent a few weeks filling in on Marble Hill and Rathmullan, which is only about 15 minutes from my house. All the county lifeguards go to Rossnowlagh a couple of times a week for collective training, so I'd know it a bit too.

Where do your family live? If you say Letterkenny I'm going to need names!

ACT has 4 sections:
English, Math, Reading, Science. The major differnece with SAT - you don't get any points off for wrong answers, and the test structure is somewhat different from SAT (almost no vocabularly involved for english, Math test is somewhat harder and you aren't allowed to use anything more than a basic calculator).
36 is the highest score, and I'm pretty sure that any number above 30 puts you in 99 percentile. 28 and above pretty much guarantees that you'll be accepted everywhere.

Doesn't that make it a bit difficult for colleges to distinguish between applicants? There must be a lot of people bunched up in the 14-25 range - how to differentiate between 10,000 people all on 20?

I can tell you that's wrong from personal experience. :o

It is 6.51 in the f'n morning, and I am laying here in bed unable to sleep. It took me until 4am to finally get tired enough that I could get to sleep (despite woreking an 10hr shift yesterday), and then just when I lay my head back... the hayfever that caught up with me yesterday morning rears it's ugly head, only made worse by the fact that I was an asthematic child. I can't breathe out of my nose because of my clogged up nostrils, and I can't breathe out of my nose because there is SO much clogging in my sinus that it is causing a drip which is making me cough a fair bit when I have to breathe out of my mouth, and uncontrollably when doing so and lying down. To make matters even worse, there is nowhere open for over 2hrs where I can get a decent, fast-working lozenge to clear up my nostrils. Finally to top everything off, I have a weird circulation problem about when I am lying/sitting down for an extended period which causes me to have an insanely dry mouth when I wake up (I actually make up a LOT fresher after drinking heavily the night before, if that is any indicator), so until I decide to get up and out of bed I am going to sound like Darth Vader.

I'm tired, but now I need to stay up for another 12-14hrs and hope I literally pass out (unless the hayfever dies down) or else I don't think I will be able to sleep, period. I haven't been thus miserable over something of this nature in a LONG, LONG time - a good year or two, anyway. At least I'm not in work today.
