God knows its the only way to get me to sit through most weddings...

Yeah, weddings have a lot more appeal when there's an open bar. :D

Not just that you can go to war at 18, but also you can drive earlier (even moreso in the US)...At what point are you responsible enough to drive, but not to drink? Some things just haven't been tought out at all.

edit: btw, ******** the American drinking age limit it is ********ing ridiculous, there is absolutelly NO reason for it, AT ALL. If someone can tell me a decent reason for it not to be 18 or even 19. Or why someone should have to pay for it, then I will give you a rep.

Someone isn't up-to-date with certain movies. ;)

I don't agree with that specific age limit, but I think we should be doing much more to curb drinking, including having an age limit. We should also be doing more to curb smoking and the use of drugs.

They better legalize Marijuana before lowering that age limit.

I'll say one thing... its a double standard... how many lives does smoking have to take before there's an age limit on that? (not buying, actually smoking) Smoking kills FAR more than drinking does and if Alcohol companies were as united as tobacco companies there'd be no age limit at all for drinking in the states probably.

I'm glad the drinking age where I live is 19. I think 18 would be a bit more suited, but I'm not complaining seeing as some of you have it at 21.

What are you going to do to curb drinking? The ********ing idiot tax helps noone. Maybe one of these days I can drive home without having 18 million potholes in the damn road. Is that what the idiot tax is going to? I think not, it is going to shit thats what its for.

But on the actual topic.. drinking driving is bad, yes. People have died within 100 feet of my house because they were drink driving. I know about the bad things of drinking and driving, some of them were under 21 even. That doesn't really matter. When these SAME people turn 21 it will be just that much easier for them to drink and drive, it being legal isn't going to change anything. It's the mindset of people not the anything else that makes it bad.

You are a college student How, surely you have met enough people to realise this: there are people , regardless of age, that know their limits and can handle themselves on a normal night. But there are too many people that can't they don't know what to do. And they make stupid choices. What exactlly are you going to do to make these people different? It's the people of the USA and how they are raised now that makes alcohol 'as bad as it is'.

There is no other country where the age limit is 21 in the western world. If there is please enlighten me. There is no other country that has as many drinking problem, drinking related deaths, drinking accidents as the US, either. Why is that?

FYP :p

They better legalize Marijuana before lowering that age limit.

In response to this, I give you some more Bill Hicks... (edited for bad words)

"Why is pot against the law? It wouldn't be because anyone can grow it, and therefore you can't make a profit off it, would it?"

"They lie about marijuana. Tell you pot-smoking makes you unmotivated. Lie! When you're high, you can do everything you normally do just as well ... you just realize that it's not worth the f-ing effort. There is a difference."

"Not all drugs are good. Some ... are great."

"Pot is a better drug than alcohol... FACT. And I'll prove it to you. You're at a ballgame, you're at a concert, and someone is really violent, aggressive and obnoxious, are they drunk or are they smoking pot? DRUNK!!! The one and only correct answer. I have never seen people on pot get into a fight because it is F-ing impossible! 'Hey buddy!' Hey what?!?' End of arguement."

:D

Europe trip in ballance as my best friend gets fine for underage drinking.. I am the luckiest man in the world though I didn't and really lucked out in the proccess. Hopefully his folks don't find out and somehow prevent him from going. :(

It makes no sense at all - I can't think of another activity in Western culture that is illegal until the age of 21 apart from drinking in the US. I'm 20 and have a few years' experience of what I can and can't drink behind me at this stage, and I'm going to go back to being underage this summer

Apart from anything else, strictly-enforced rules like that are completely counterproductive. I know a fair number of people who didn't touch a drop until they turned 18 (as opposed to the majority who would have tried it at some point before 18, and the many who drank regularly before 18), and it's the ones who didn't drink at all who go completely overboard when they are legal. They don't know how to drink, or how much they can handle, or not to mix, or not to drink 10 shots quickly because they didn't feel the effect of the first one straight away, or anything else. Whereas I started drinking reasonably regularly at 16 or 17 so I learned my limits gradually, and now I don't bother a lot of the time because it's cheaper and just as entertaining to drink water and drive myself home instead; when I do I can handle it.

i just had to sit through two nights of a student-neighborhood meeting for one of my classes that focused on the issue of students living off campus. so basically it was really old, dumb people complaining about parties and the like.
I tried to go in there with an open mind but by the second night i had run out of patience. the "residents" just railed on how bad the students are, how bad alcohol is, how terrible binge drinking is etc etc all the terrible things that can happen blah blah. i brought up the point of the stigma of drinking and how if a lower drinking age and being able to know your limits rather then having your first experience drinking in far away university etc. pretty much what has been stated above. don't know if they bought into it, im sure they just think im the same old kid who wants a lower drinking age so he can booze. which is true. but it really makes no sense for a 21 age limit, along with the crap the police do to try to enforce it. so much money wasted. grrr. plus the two consumptions ive recieved and the ridiculous fines sours my view as well. i could go on all night really.

edit: keep in mind the town i live in is about 90,000, with a student population of ROUGHLY 12-15000. i don't really know the proportion that live off campus, although i am a native of the town and have lived off campus for all three years of my college. (not with my parents either) the university also has NO frat housing because they are banned in the city, NO specific student housing area off campus, so the students are scattered across the city.

Had dinner out at an italian restaurant last night. When I got home, I wasn't feeling very good. Long story short, I'm sure I got food poisoning. Still not 100% now, but at least I'm not nauseus. :(

It's possible, but I felt that right away, the game wasn't even over and I felt sick. This is definately from food, I've felt it before, but of course now I'm worried that it's a severe case of something and I'll end up in the hospital. That's what I get for reading up on WebMD. :o
