Don Garber just said on ESPN2 during the Galaxy/Revolution game that Toronto's team name and colors are set to be announced within the next few weeks.

He also said that MLSE has been actively searching for a General Manager for the Toronto club as well.

Good times ahead for you guys.

Good stuff.

That was the one MLS match I was unable to watch yesterday (no ESPN2 in Canada), so thanks for passing that info on.

Hmmmm, Peter Wilk send them his resume?

I wasn't sure how I felt about Toronto, or more specifically, having a Canadian team in MLS. But I think it's great and wouldn't mind seeing more. I believe that MLS can have 32 to 36 teams.

Great news, for sure...
as for 32-36 teams... wow, maybe in 100 years. I think a top-top at 20 would be more realistic.
10 in the East, 10 in the West or a single table.

maybe with promotion relegation we'd have 32-36 teams - but that is a long time away....

If recent applications for registration with both the Canadian Intellectual Property Office and the United States Patent and Trademark Office are any indication, the new club will be named...

Inter Toronto FC

The name was filed with CIPO on March 16, 2006 (on behalf of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment) and with USPTO on March 28, 2006 (on behalf of Major League Soccer).

Additionally, applications for the names Toronto FC and Toronto Northmen were both filed with CIPO on March 16, 2006, but neither name appears to have been registered with the USPTO.

Congratulations Toronto fans and future players.

I wonder if our 2 Canadian members of the Quakes (Houston) will try to be relocated there.

There are 3 ClashQuake1836Dynamo players hailing from the great white north. The newest Canadian Adrian Serioux (http://www.mlsnet.com/MLS/players/bio.jsp?team=hou&player=serioux_a&playerId=ser300317&statType=current) is from Ontario.

I'm sure that I'd want to head to the great white north, and pay a ton in taxes... to play on an expansion team...

Oh wait, no I wouldn't.

Oh man, that is an awful name...

Is it Dynamo bad or Red Bull bad???

That's the real question.

I think that it's Red Bull bad.

It's more of what MLSE is willing to give up to give up to get them.

I'm not sure that they're going to have enought to give up to get him. I saw somewhere else that for 3 draft picks DeRo & Serioux would go to Toronto and I think that is very unlikely.

To get a star player like DeRo, it takes a lot. They would have to see another high quality international player becoming available to give up DeRo for only picks.

This site's pretty legit when it comes to "insider" info on upcoming announcements.

And be close to your family, including your sick mother who may not live much longer...Serioux signed with NY for that very reason.

3 picks might not sound like much, but one of those will be the 1st or 2nd overall. And as i stated in the other thread, Houston is bound to get an allocation back for his loss, not to mention another player or players from deals in and around the expansion draft. Hey, i wouldn't want to lose them either, especially DeRo...

Judging by comments made by a key MLSE employee (posting as mlsintoronto) on another board, it appears that this name has been registered but several other options have also been as well. There is going to be some sort of name the team process in the not too distant future:-

Inter Toronto FC would be about as lame a name as MLS could attach to the new club. Might as well call it Toronto Celtic or Toronto Barcelona in my opinion. That would be a major damper on the expansion franchise worse than anything experience by 1836.

Inter is the name associated with a famous Italian club and no one else. It is not a generic name like united or city or real even.

Major Faux Pas IMO

Go AC Milan! (and I am not an AC fan)
