Can someone tell me what the specific directives are as to players with blood on their uniforms? I thought due to AIDS, blood meant you had to go off till it was addressed?
If the specific reason for the question is important, why was Marco Senna allowed to play for 30 minutes in the CL game against Inter with a blood soaked uniform? Not drops...fully soaked through the enitre inner leg of his shorts.
thanks

As for specific directives:
Laws of the Game, Law 5:
ensures that any player bleeding from a wound leaves the fi eld
of play. The player may only return on receiving a signal from the
referee, who must be satisfied that the bleeding has stopped
ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR REFEREES, ASSISTANT REFEREES AND FOURTH OFFICIALS, page 73:
any player bleeding from a wound must leave the field of play. He
may not return until the referee is satisfied that the bleeding has
stopped. A player cannot wear clothing with blood on it
Advice to Referees (USSF-specific document. i don't have this year's copy, but i doubt it has changed), section 5.8:
If a player is bleeding, he must leave the field immediately to have the bleeding stopped and his skin and uniform cleaned as thoroughly as possible. When the player is ready to return to the game, the referee will inspect the injured area and the uniform for blood before giving his permission to re-enter the game.
---
So if there is any blood, the player must leave to have the bleeding stopped, and should not come back into the match with blood on his uniform.
It's a bit harsh to say that it's done due to AIDS, as that assumes that most football players have AIDS. It's a simple safety precaution, as many complications can develop as a result of playing football either bleeding or wearing clothing with blood on it.

Thanks, so it's to protect the player who's bleeding as opposed to other players.
Since the referee failed to enforce this rule...and it was the most glaring case I've ever seen of player bleeding in a game.... will he fail his assessment on this game for this sort of mistake?
