View Full Version : Hargreaves for the World Cup?

Hello,
Like many Canadians, I have an exceptionally low opinion of Hargreaves - who is usually referred to as "the unmentionable one", "the traitor", or simply "the Whore" among Canadian fans. I know that alot of Canadians would love to see him fail to make the English squad (that's nicer than saying you hope he breaks his neck right?), and would appreciate the irony of him not being able to make the team that he betrayed his country for and having his international career ended early when he could have played for Canada for many more years.
Anyways, I was wondering what your thoughts were on Hargreaves? Do the English fans and members of the squad think of him as English? As a mercenary? Does he have any friends on the squad? What are the odds of him making the World Cup team now that he is healthy again? Is Sven the only Hargreaves fan, or would a new coach, an Englishman instead of a foreigner like Sven, have any time for Hargreaves?

Hargreaves is an irrelevance to most English supporters. He is rarely mentioned at all, even when included in squads or gets playing time.

He's a foreigner, decent player nothing special. His versatility and natural fitness makes him a handy sqaud player, and he'll probably go to World Cup for that reason.

Dyer and Jenas are above him in the pecking order and Nolan and Downing are better than him, Richardson is probably in with a shout, but probably won't go either??

hargreaves is better than parker... carrick is close but I think Hargreaves could prolly outdue him.

owen hargreaves dad is english, his mum is welsh, his older brother was born in england, blah blah blah.
i hardly think he betrayed canada.
anyway, sven loves him, so he'll probably go to the world cup.

Hargreaves didnt betray Canada. I can garuntee you that any English Born hockey player that also could play for Canada's national team and actually given the oppurtunity to play for them would take them up on that.
Canada's soccer team is useless, and irrelevant.
