Total pish IMO. The only Scots I know who support England are a couple of Rangers fans. Maybe if you were asking non-football fans they wouldn't really care. But do a poll amongst Scottish football fans and you'd be lucky to get 15% who'd support england, and most of them would be Rangers fans.
Interestingly enough, here are the latest results from a poll on the Morton forum:
Will you be supporting England in the World Cup finals?
Yes [ 0 ] ** [0.00%]
No [ 43 ] ** [100.00%]
That's much more like it :D

no. i hope they get kicked out in the first round, although considering the draw they got i don't see it happening. (unless of course their 'fans' have a couple of clashes with the local polis)

67%? The BBC obviously went to Ibrox and asked three Rangers fans.
I have nothing at all against the English people in general, but I hope that their football team gets pumped, and their scummy fans and shite press are sent home early with their tails between their legs.

I think you'll find that the Red Coats were British, not English.
As much as I'm a Nationalist, ignorant little inaccuracies like that annoy me.

I'm a doodle dandy but I lived in Glasgow a couple of years and would love to start supporting Scotland again if they made it to any of the shows.
I've always wanted to know if you'd support a British football team? Do you root for English Britains in the Olympics?
I always thought it was kinda funny how you used to cheer for anyone else - my English wife didn't though!

personally, i only ever support the scottish 'brits' in the olympics. and there is absolutely no way i would support a british football team. i think you should only support your nation, and i don't see britain as a nation. scotland, england wales and northern ireland are the nations. britain is just a political arrangment of those nations.
i would like to see a british league, however, with the nations remaining independent at international level. i'm in the minority on that one though.

It's only the Scottish football fans who want England to lose, the more well-balanced, mature Scots want us to do well.

No, not under any circumstances.

I don't really care about the Olympics except the sports I'd otherwise watch (i.e. I don't suddenly start caring about athletics every 4 years) but on a general basis, no, I don't.

Your mum looked quite well-balanced and mature when she got her chebs out for Readers' Wives.

What is this expectation from people that because you share the same lump of geography as someone you'll want their team to do well in the World Cup your own horribly inadequate team hasn't seen in eight years?

If Scotland was fortunate enough to be part of CONCACAF, we'd have qualified for the last two World Cups. :)
CONCACAF is the "ladies first" route to the World Cup. They'd be better off giving Mexico and the USA instant byes, giving Costa Rica a playoff against, I dunno, Livingston, and picking an island nation at random for the 4th spot. Which is pretty much how it works :D
