From the results on any given day, almost any team can beat the other. There does not seem to be an overwhelming dominance of any one team amonst CR, Italy and USA!!

But you've provided nothing of value. Anyone can go to the exact same webpage you did and look at the exact same results that you've copied and pasted. It's not even as if you got them from an obscure source.

Now for example if you did a bit of analysis on who has beaten whom and what that potentially means, or compiled some statistics of a nature different to the ones that are available then I wouldn't have an issue with this thread. But you're just regurgitating massive slabs of data that anyone with an IQ above room temperature can locate themselves.

It would appear reading many of the posts, people seem to have a foggy idea of what really happens on the field. And it would appear from the discussions not many go and look at these data's, although they at one's finger tips.

Like I said, FIFA does the number crunching - all I have done is put a sample of what they are based on.

Looking at the results - Italy does not appear to be as dominant as many would think. And likewise it is the same for CR and even USA. So, instead of spinning our wheels on who is better or who is worst we might look at what are the strategies each time may apply during the WC.

Again, everyone has an opinion that is why we come here to share them.

Looking at the results - Italy does not appear to be as dominant as many would think. And likewise it is the same for CR and even USA. But see, even the data you posted doesn't support that. Italy hasn't lost a match in a year and a half. The Czech Republic has something like a 22-1-3 match record since the start of Euro2004. If that's not dominant, I'd like to know what is.

The US has a pretty strong W-D-L record as well - however wheras UEFA is easily the strongest confederation in the world, CONCACAF is... not. They have played significantly fewer matches against quality opposition (3 teams who will be in Germany) than either Italy (9) or Czech Republic (6), and the average quality of their opposition has also been significantly lower. Consequently their dominance, while impressive, means far less than that of Italy and the Czech Republic who have been more severely tested and come out on top.

(PS - for future reference, that's called analysis.)

An unscientific analysis at best!! But you are entitled to your opinions. FIFA does degrade contests besides that of UEFA for other regions. You can easily read up their methodology, as I already have.

If you would like to point out any factual inaccuracies in anything I posted, disagree with my opinion by providing reasons or provide any sort of rationale to back up your absurd statements like "Italy isn't dominant", I'm happy to discuss them. But all you've done so far is:

a) Cut and paste a whole lot of data
b) Made an outlandish statement

and made no attempt to link them.

In order for you to provide a scientific analysis you need to provide a sound methodology. What you expressed is your opinions, and you are entitled to them. You can paste your ideas of a dominant team and I may or may not agree with them.

Again, the strategies each team employ at the WC will quite different then they do in friendlies or even qualifiers. FIFA degrades friendlies over qualifiers. And then just because a team belongs does not mean it is a good team. There are many European teams that are quite weak. Likewise there are such teams on all conferences.

As far as strategies, coaches employ many different formations, and combination of players in each competition. At times to negate the advantages of one team over another, at other times to leverage their own strengths. If each game in the WC was based on past analysis then the results for every game should be quite predictable.

Yet, in 2002 - Mexico tied Italy then lost to USA. Italy lost to S. Korea. In each case, there was a great deal of strategy involved that had a greater bearing on the game then past history.

Those discussions are of more interest and revealing then any past results.

- bye!!

Czech v Netherlands 0 - 2, 0 - 2
Czech v Romania 1 - 0, 0 - 2

4 games against best two teams in the qualifying group;
3 losses
6 goals conceded
1 goal scored

On a different note....here's how the Czech's fared against minnows

1. Andorra (pop. 70,549): 8 - 1, 4 - 0
2. Macedonia: 6 - 1 , 2 - 0
3. Armenia: 4 - 1, 3 - 0

Net: 27 goals scored

they sure kicked the crap out of Andorra, but I don't think the Czech's have a good record against quality teams since Euro 2004.
