i didnt know where to put this but i was wondering if there is a womens soccer(football) team at oxford university and is it good compared to american universities?

You might check in the Women's forums. They're quite knowledgeable about all women's teams and not just the US women's teams.

and bear in mind that universities here are purely acedemic. People don't get in because they are good at sports. Sports teams are just recreational.

Except rowing. That's still quite competetive here. I rowed for my Uni heavywieght crew.
Even then it's only some unis that take it seriously, not nationwide.
As Richard said, sports are played at Unis here but they're not taken seriously for the most part. I'm sure OxBridge have a soccer team for both genders as they do a rugby team. I'm also sure they're just an excuse for people to meet up and then go drinking afterwards. Drinking, now that's a sport we take seriously at Uni over here.

Lets be fair... thats a sport taken seriously not just at Uni... how many countries have sporting heros whose reputation is enhanced by meeting the prime minister like this:-
