Hello SE's! I'm looking to attend my first DC United game this season, hopefully in the Screaming Eagles section. A few questions (feel free to merge with FAQ thread)...

1) What exactly is the difference between the Screaming Eagles/La Norte/Barra Brava?

2) Is there any type of dress code? Whenever I've seen the SE's on TV, I've always seen a lot of black, but all I have is last year's away shirt.

3) Does membership in the SE's entail attending every home game? I live in Carlisle, PA, which is about 2 hours away, so I don't think attending every home match would be possible.

Thanks for your answers.

The 3 DC supporters clubs differ in size and how we're organized (the SEs are a 501(c) 4 non profit), however we all pretty much know each other and get along and most importantly give our all at DCU games. No dress code (any DCU/SE gear is fine in the Nest, personally I'm not too thrilled with International club gear but OK, don't expect a friendly hello wearing other MLS club gear).

SE membership is $20 for the year and how many games you attend is up to you (we have some international members who never get to games). You can also be a member and not even sit in the SE nest.

An interesting observation to be sure. SE's often wear black due not only to the nature of the teams color scheme, but also as a result of the front office's marketing efforts built around the "Blackout" theme (http://www.cybersoccernews.com/mls/dcunited/041107dcu-revs.shtml).

You can certainly find a number of items in the SE store (http://screaming-eagles.com/store.html) that meet such sartorial efforts.

For example, my favorite is the long-sleeved t-shirt:

you can purchase it using Paypal and not only will it be sent to you in time to don for whatever matches you make this season, but the money will support our charitable efforts. A double bonus of sorts :)

However, it is certainly NOT a requirement and even I have been known to be caught clad from time to time in non DCU related garb (someone asked me once what an Orlando Pirate (http://www.orlandopiratesfc.com/) was).

Not to worry, some of our fellow SE's are strewn across the nation and the globe and are often forced to follow our beloved club from afar. Two hours should offer you plenty of opportunities to partake of the festivities in person!

I can guarantee that you won't be the only one in Newcastle gear either.

Nice description by Steve Long in that old story

The transition was heralded by United's faithful Screaming Eagles and Barra Brava who came clad in a sea of black, drowning out with their mourning color the historic orange seat backs. The crowd of 21,101 reflected a well-targeted DC United "blackout" promotion.

Mourning in America - what the RBNY crowd will be feeling as they return on their "Love" buses.
