i'm sorry, but if i see one more gaggle of worshipers traveling miles and miles to crowd around a freezer door or a bottle of lotion (http://www.timbousquet.com/papers/Daily_Citizen/articles/2004_04_16_Jesus_handlotion.htm) or a grilled cheese sandwich (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6511148) or a highway underpass (http://www.turnto10.com/news/8296839/detail.html?rss=pro&psp=news), i will call for these comically devout people to be immediately institutionalized
why are people allowed to be batshit crazy if they "are religious"? frankly, i think they are verging on becoming dangers to themselves and others with this hokum
and don't genuinely spiritual people of th echristian faith have to roll their eyes out of their head when they hear this stuff?

I thought America prided itself on being a place where batshit insane people are totally free to be batshit insane and vocally proud of it.

yeah... until they start having kids and voting and driving cars and using butter knives on a regular basis
then, they are just a danger to society

I hope you won't think me batshit insane... but I've discovered a miracle.
I see the likeness of the Virgin Mary on THIS PICTURE of someone lying on the ground under some flying babies.

Does this mean religious people can call for the institutionalization of people like Michael Newdow?
sure, why not

What are we looking at?
Who is hurt when people flock to images appearing in sandwiches or on the sides of building?
If it's not hurting anyone, and this is how people want to feel more connected to their faith, I have no problem with it.

oh, they can do what they want... they should just be declared mentally unstable, lose the right to vote, reproduce etc. :D

that, my friend, is supposed to be the miracle of a virgin mary appearing when a streetlight hits an underpass pillar at night

:p :D
Honestly though, and maybe because I grew up Catholic during the hype of Medagorje and JPII's fascination with Fatima, I have no problem with this.
Now, if one of these folks campaigned to have the Vision of Mary in the Grilled Cheese included in public school curriculum, THAT would be a problem.
I think there are greater battles to fight.

I'm usually pretty good at spotting these things, but no dice. Can I get a visual aid or something?

A lot of people vote that probably shouldn't. We can't stop them all, you know. ;)

You make it sound like this is a new thing.
Ever hear of the virgen of Guadalupe? Fatima? This has happened all through history. God works in mysterious ways and all that, you know. ;)
I'd be willing to guess that Jesus and his early followers were considered crazy fools, too.

I'd be willing to guess that Jesus and his early followers were considered crazy fools, too. yes, but they didn't buy 10-year old grilled cheese sandwich for $28,000 and then go vote
cripes, if only the news channels would spend as much time questioning bush on his enviromental policy as they do glamorizing these wingnuts... but i digress

And pay taxes...
erm.... well... their megachurchmalls somehow escape taxation, so we'll just call that one even :D
but seriously, do mentally challenged folks with income have to pay taxes? if not, then we can let them off taxes too
divide and conquer, baby
That's a double-edged sword yer wielding there, big fella. ;)
As I would never ever want to deny anyone who is an atheist the right to vote, I would not want anyone who truly believes in these sorts of miracles to be denied the right to vote.
One person's crazy is another person's faith. Respect them all.
