D.C. United reserves to defend League title

Reserves set to open with benefit game April 9 at MD SoccerPlex

Washington, D.C. (March 29, 2006) - D.C. United announced today the playing schedule for the club’s reserve team.** Last year marked the inaugural season of the Reserve Division, developed by Major League Soccer in partnership with adidas as a key component of the Generation adidas program.** The Reserve Division allows teams to provide meaningful competitive matches to players who are outside of the first 11, giving them important in-game experience.** D.C. United won the Reserve Division title last year, finishing with a record of 8-4-0 and 24 points.** The defending Major League Soccer Reserve Division champions will open the season by participating in the 10th annual KICKS Against Breast Cancer Tournament at the Maryland SoccerPlex.****

“Our organization is proud of our team’s depth and the subsequent success of last year’s reserve side,” said United Vice President of Marketing Jamie O’Connor. “To be able to prepare for our upcoming reserve season by playing a talented University of Maryland team for such a great cause is an honor.”

On April 9, United’s reserves will face-off against the defending NCAA National Champions from the University of Maryland on April 9 at 7:00 p.m, following the University of Virginia vs. the Washington Freedom (women) at 5:00 p.m.** Proceeds from this event will be split between the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults and the Howard County General Hospital’s Claudia Mayer Cancer Resource and Image Center in Columbia, MD, both 501c3 non-profit organizations supporting individual’s affected by cancer.**** The two featured evening games will be televised live on Fox Soccer Channel.** Tickets can be purchased online at kicksagainstbreastcanc.com http://www.kicksagainstbreastcanc.com where a complete schedule of games can also be found.**

Twenty-two of the top men’s and women’s college soccer teams will participate in the 10th Annual KICKS Against Breast Cancer College Tournament and the 2nd Annual SHUT-OUT Cancer College Soccer Classic on April 9, 2006 at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Germantown, MD.** For a list of all the participating teams and to purchase tickets, please visit kicksagainstbreastcanc.com http://www.kicksagainstbreastcanc.com.

The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults:
The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults was created by Doug Ulman after being diagnosed with cancer as a sophomore on the Brown University soccer team.** Frustrated by the lack of support programs or literature directed at the needs of young adults affected by cancer, Doug and his family created The Ulman Cancer Fund For Young Adults to fill the void that exists in health care services.** Its mission is to provide support programs, education and resources, free of charge, to benefit young adults, their families and friends, who are affected by cancer, and to promote awareness and prevention of cancer.** Doug is now a three-time cancer survivor, President of the Board for the UCF, and Director of Survivorship for the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

The KICKS Against Breast Cancer Intercollegiate Soccer Tournament:
The tournament was established in honor of Claudia Mayer, a friend of tournament Director Louise Waxler (WUSA/Washington Freedom), who passed away in 1996 after a two-year battle with breast cancer.** Since the inception of the tournament 9 years ago, donations and fundraising by participating teams has totaled more than $350,000.**** The funds have been used to assist with the operating expenses for Howard County General Hospital’s Claudia Mayer Cancer Resource and Image Center in Columbia, Maryland.**
