In the spirit of the recent interest in both our clubs by fans from the sister sides I wanted to start this thread as an avenue for Salzburg fans to post updates and reports on the progress of thier team and so we here can better aquaint ourselves with the other Red Bull club in Austria.
To start us off i have link to the Austrian Bungesliga web site. You can view all of Salzburg's goals under "Tore der Runde" and track their table under "Tabellen"
http://www.bundesliga.at/bewerbe/index.php?PHPSESSID=c06b454964e6b4938068cb169334e43b&sub1=1&sub2=1_7&sub3=&sub4=&runde_display=28&saison=20052006&PHPSESSID=c06b454964e6b4938068cb169334e43b
So come you Salzburg fans educate us on Salzburg football.

I like what your PA guy does after goals. screams the first name and all the fans scream back the last name of the goalscorer. We should do that.

Yes, that ist very good. The PA guy repeats this 3 times. It sounds like this:
"...der Torschütze, mit der Nummer 7, Alex..... Zickler , Alex.... Zickler , AAAAAAlllllleeeexxxx Ziiiicklleeeeerrr .
That´s fantastic!

Directly visit: http://www.redbullsalzburg.com/
On the left side you can get a short review of the last matches by clicking on "VIDEOS" and choosing the quality (eg: "ansehen (200 kbit/s)")
OR:
"GALLERY" - some pics of the last matches
OR:
"VIRTUAL REPLAY" - you get an animated and totally scaleable review of some exciting match-situations and goals.
Do you have some website too where one can find pics/videos?

Well, Austria Salzburg has a long tradition (founded in 1933). The greatest heyday were in the nineteeth with three championship titles (seasons 1993/94, 1994/95 and 1996/97) and several great international matches (UEFA-Cup final lost closely against Inter Mailand) After that glorious days the club had to scale down the expectations and struggle against relegation due to maladministration and unfortunate player-transfers. :(
However, in Summer 2005 Red Bull took over the club and changed most of the team. New coach is Austrian Kurt Jara who trained some clubs in Germany, eg: "Hamburger SV" and "Kaiserslautern". Among some fans he is not without controversy because he is a little bit rude sometimes, but I think he is definitely the best coach available for RBS. At the beginning the team was rather old, with players like Thomas Linke and Alex Zickler (both from "Bayern München") and some experienced Austrians, who do a good job at all. Of course first the team had problems to find their way, but after the first quarter of the national mastership they really started to play well and after the second quarter RBS was leading the league. (and awarded the really nonrelevant title "Winterkönig") :D
You should know that in Austria the mastership goes from Winter to Summer (we now have season 05/06) and every club plays 4 times (2 times before winter-break and 2 times after) against every other club and the one who has got the most points is champion and the last one is relegated to the 2nd league. Besides there are also cup-matches, but they seem not to be so important (which is a pity).
However in winter-break three new players (the two defenders: Laszlo Bodnar and Roland Gercaliu and the midfielder Andreas Ivanschitz) joined the team. At the beginning of the second leg, RBS had to cope with some throwbacks (lost against the "stragglers" Admira and Sturm Graz) - but the team fought back in two great matches against the heaviest opponent "Austria Wien" with a 3-0 win at home and a 2-2 outwards. So now after three quarters of the mastership RBS is on place two with good chances to get the title. (although it is not expected). :)

Best place for video's is MLSnet.com. They archive all the games and highlights through the season. So if you ever have some free time and want to catch a Red Bull New York game you can go to this link and watch the entire match...or if you don't have time you can watch a 5 minute highlight of the game.
In fact i recommend watching this game below. It may be an eye sore to see the NFL football lines but the game was very exciting and lots of goals.

Watch the Revolution highlights and the Chivas USA highlights.
I see you are in a race with Austria, are they your big rivals in the Bundesliga? If not, who is?

With the links on the right side you can go into VIP-Club, Skyboxes and so on.
BTW: Her is a direct link to a video, you can hear the PA-guy and the fans screaming after the goal: http://www.bundesliga.at/bewerbe/show_tore.php?&liga=bl1&saison=20052006&runde=27&spiel=5&tor_h=1&tor_g=0&sub1=1\',\'Torvideo\',\'630\',\'564\',\'YES\',\'YES\',\'YES\');&quality=200

Not to forget that the fans always have to scream "Zero" for the score of the other team. No matter how many goals they actually scored.

Its gonna take some time for people here to do it. Its similar to what they tried to do a couple of years ago durring player introductions where the announcer invited the fans to "participate in a Metrostars tradition" of the announcer saying the first name of the player and the fans shouting the last name. Problem was only the ESC did it, so the announcer would have to say the last name as well.
Those things kinda have to evolve over time. Probably the best way would be to have a standard chant by the ESC that would fit all the players name that could be easily picked up by the rest of the stadium. After the rest of the stadium gets involved in the chants then bring the announcer in. If you start off with the announcer and the crowd doesn't reply back, then it just sounds lame.
How did it become the tradition over in Salzburg anyway?

Good question actually.
I guess it also grew with the time. But for sure we do that for a long time already. I can remember back in the mid 90s the announcer already did already read the lineup this way. (God bless Didi!:D )
You could do it as well, but with the difference that the announcer repeats the surname of the player after the people screaming it. If people become used to it will also work out and the announcer won't have to repeat the surname.

Actually, other people did it, too. But in the cavernous Giants Stadium, you probably couldn't hear it.
I sit in 132, and everyone around me shouted the players' last names on command.
But, then again, some of us sing, too, and you probably can't hear that, either:( .

We started that for Lothar Matthaeus, the season he was on the team, and thomas Dooley awas there, too. It's a tradition in Germany, and something like that in Austria, too, as we have seen at RB Salzburg.
So much get's lost in Giants Stadium, unless you have a full house for the main tenants, and then its just dull roars and loud cheers. No songs for the Giants or the Jets (other than "Westside Story").

Another funny thing is when a goal is scored and the name of the goalgetter was shouted, than the announcer screams: "NEUER SPIELSTAND (new score) RED BULL SALZBURG" than the fans scream: "ONE!" announcer: "AUSTRIA WIEN (the opponent)" fans: "NULL!" announcer: "DANKE! (thank you)" fans: "Bitte! (Here you are)":D

The new one that will be built gets in 25,000 . It is first for soccer but will be able to host concerts.
The stadion we play in now is Giants Stadium, it is a NFL stadion for the Giants and the Jets and gets in 80,000.
