Because I'm impatient and can't wait for a day or two to see this thread . . .

DC United v. New York Red Bulls -- the 2006 season begins

I might have a tiny bit of respect for them if they'd been bought by this Red Bull.

- Stuff You Need To Know -

• Television :: MSG through MLS Direct Kick; Comcast SportsNet still unknown
• Audio Webcast :: DC United (http://dcunited.mlsnet.com/MLS/dcu/)
• Broadband Video Webcast :: Likely through MLSnet (http://www.mlsnet.com/MLS/sights/)
• PBP AIM Chatroom :: BigSoccerDCU :: Directions Here (http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=2238175#post2238175)

-Notes-

United will be without the services of Christian Gomez, as a result of the spitting incident last year.

To start the discussion . . .it appears that the Red Donkeys have made a move to improve their situation at forward (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=363121&cc=5901). Do we know where our goals are coming from?

Here's my crack at the starting lineup:

.................Perkins

Erpen......Boswell..........Prideaux

.........Carroll........Simms

Gross.............Olsen..............Adu

.........Moreno.........Filomeno

The absence of Gomez is huge for United...... I believe Rimando, Quaranta and Namoff are also out.

Why wouldn't you put Freddy in the middle?

I agree. Sit Simms, and play Moose on the wing.

Or, after the Carolina debacle, sit Carroll and play Simms.

Ah... the starting lineup. You hit the old nail by wondering about who replaces Gomez. I have an alternative lineup which has Freddy in the middle because 1) he's good there and 2) Olsen isn't.

.................Perkins

Erpen......Boswell..........Prideaux

.........Carroll........Olsen

Moose.............Adu..............Gros

.........Moreno.........Filomeno

So basically, does Moose or Simms start?

Another question is how long does Filimeno play before Esky comes on? A half? 70 minutes? Depends on if he scores?

Finally- Prideaux on the left or right? I like left.

This is correct.

Count on the Donkeys' game plan being to physically pound Freddie and Jaime hard early and often. Is Stoichkov still retired?

Who cares who started it. Thank god it's finally here :D
Sunday can't get here fast enough :)

Even with their new addition, i'm not too worried about what the ex-Mutts will do on the field. I'm more concerned about our team. With Gomez out Freddy needs to step up and it doesn't seem like he has been doing that this preseason. If we mark their big guns out of the midfield, I think a 0 - 0 will be easy.

I see something like:

--------- Perkins ---------
-- Erpen -- Boz -- ??? --
------ Benny -- BC ------
-- Gros --- Adu --- ??? --
---- Moreno Filomeno ----

I don't know enough about our other wing options yet and the 3rd on the backline worries right now.

I would bring Eski in around 60 - 70 for Adu and push Moreno back assuming that Adu still isn't stepping up otherwise bring him in for Filomeno. Then bring Walker in for the last 10 or so and let him nag the hell of any defense that is still standing.

I think the difference will be Fat Tony and that he'll keep it close. I think it's a 0-0/1-1 tie or 1-0 for us.

Yea, the season is here! I'm bringing my little cousin with me so I hope we absolutely destroy the Scum. Wait, I want that every game. I hope the traffic is lite. See y'all there.

I cant wait for Sunday. Its been so long since the sad day in October. Im looking forward to my third year in the supporters clubs and second as a season ticket holder. Its feels like the night before Christmas with the excitement. The offseason was like purgatory but now we have a chance to get on with it again and get that fifth league title. That being said, It would be great to get a big win and send the travelling supporters home with their heads down. Im worried about losing Gomito for the match but hopefully Freddy can fill in nicely for him. I am a little worried about the backline with Namoff injured as I prefer him to Prideaux and John Wilson. I would love to see Esky get minutes in the second half and I hope we can all the points and make a good start to the campaign.

Or, after the Carolina debacle, sit Carroll and play Simms. I've been out of the loop mostly. What happened in Carolina to make anyone question whether Carroll starts?

Ugly game, Carroll played like crap. Simms played well. There was nothing really deep there. :p

Does anyone know if there will be a webcast of the opening game? I'm stuck out of the country until the 6th of April, but I can't imagine not being able to see the game (I always seem to miss one home game every season - and still have the ticket left over afterwards).

Gah, I wish they showed DC United games here in Israel...

MLSnet.com should have the match. It's being televised on the New York side of things, therefore it should be on.
