Jaime "will fly to his native country Tuesday night, play Thursday night and return to Washington on Friday in order to prepare for Sunday's season opener."

I think it's great that this tribute match is happening, and it's of course obvious that Jaime needs to participate in it, but isn't it kind of weird that he's playing this game and doing all that travel two days before the season opener? especially for someone who doesn't typically last past 70 minutes anyways?

isn't it kind of weird that he's playing this game and doing all that travel two days before the season opener? Nope. Jaime is a leader and his teammates will pull together to cover for him. Class move by DC for letting him go to play.
We have plenty of forward cover - but we really need his leadership on the field without Gomez out there.

Come again?
Is there a problem w/ Gomez or is this about the spitting?
[Edit: Nevermind... It's the spitting]:o

Class move by Arena as well.

I'm glad DCU is giving Jaime the go-ahead, when they could've been pricks about it. Yet more proof that this organization is a cut above the others.

Keep waiting until Marco decides to call is a career - he is the hold-up not DCU

Jaime Moreno will continue to collect frequent flier miles this week. Recently listed as one of 10 Major League Soccer players to be in the league since inception, Moreno will travel to Bolivia this week to participate in his national team's tribute match honoring Marco Etcheverry. United's top goal scorer of all time will fly to his native country Tuesday night, play Thursday night and return to Washington on Friday in order to prepare for Sunday's season opener

Moreno joined DC during the first year as a replacement from Juan Bertha Suarez. He hasn't been here since the league's inception.

Heap on the abuse.

While I think it's a tremendous jesture for Jaime and DCU to attend this game, it very risky. I don't think injury is very likely based that the tackling should be light (for a friendly). However, it's possible - didn't Jaime get injured playing in that MLS farce in Spain during the season. The etch game, to me, is more valid. My main concern is being tired from playing 2 games within 3 days.

If I were DCU, I would have tried to talk Jaime from attending - but sending a "terrific gift" in our absence.

He was signed in June after torching Agoos and Lalas while playing for Bolivia against the US. Suarez was long gone by then.

Except that Marco and Jaime are like brothers and I seriously doubt Jaime would miss this game.
