It seems like we are going to get the shaft again this year with regards to the metro. Almost every spring DC United match at home is on a weekend that metro has track work. I bet it will be the same thing in the summer too .

Linked article says track work is from 10am to 2pm, and on dcunited.com indicates most weekend games (and most games, period) are in the late afternoon or evening. I'm not an expert in getting to DCU matches via Metro since I drive to the games I attend, but the Metro track work does not look like a major impact at all.

Not like they can do the work on weekdays. If you take the Metro to RFK, start to plan accordingly.

Weekend of April 15-16

Blue/Orange Line: Blue Line trains will share one track from Eastern Market to Addison Road-Seat Pleasant and Orange Line trains will share one track from Eastern Market to Minnesota Avenue while personnel replace rail outside of the Stadium-Armory Metrorail station.

This might be the one week-end you have the most problems

I take the orange line to almost every DCU match, took it to most matches last season, and rarey if ever experienced a problem. There was one instance where we stalled at eastern market, and it was an extra $5 for a cab ride to rfk. You don't need to add 2 hours onto your travel plans for the match or anything... an extra half hour does the trick most of the time. If anything it seemed to me like metro knew what they were doing and gave preference to rfk- or home-bound trains during any single-tracking situations.

Walk from eastern market

If worse came to worst I could walk, too.
Eastern Market is about the half-way point for me, but conveniently, there are refreshments at hand.:D

I don't think it will come to that, though.

You are luckier than I. There were probably four or five instances where I was delayed. On two of them, the doors were closed as we sat in the tunnel by Eastern Market, so you couldn't even get out and walk. It was a major pain in the ass, and they never gave any real indication when the trains would be moving. "We'll be moving momentarily," the conductor would say. And then we wouldn't. I remember one in particular where we hit Eastern Market fully 50 minutes before the game was set to start. I ended up missing the first 10 minutes of the match.

So beware. Metro blows sometimes.

I gave up on metro and bought the parking passes for $90 for the whole season or $5/game. Only a little more expensive than the train and it takes 20 minutes or less to get to lot 8 from Ballston on the weekends.

Yeah, but by the time I am leaving RFK I am usually extremely drunk.

Wanna give me a lift home?

Not if you're drunk. :-)

Looks like we're good for the home opener and the Chicas game.
