View Full Version : Classical Recording Draft???

Well, having missed out on the Album Draft (still kicking myself) I would like to propose the idea of having a draft of classical music works and/or recordings. There are various ways we could go about it... here is my original post over in the album draft's judges corner:

Anyone interested in doing something similar to this thread, only with classical music? That's my first, and greatest love, but I don't know how many others like me there are hanging around BigSoccer.

Besides, it would be pretty nigh impossible since Bach didn't exactly... ya know... release albums. But if someone can think of a workable idea I would love to participate.

And here was Via_Chicago's reply:
I know Norsk Troll wanted to do one. About Bach though, I imagine that we'd pick recordings of particular pieces, and both the piece and the recording would factor into the judging.

Any suggestions? Volunteers for participants and judges? Or... if we can't come up with anyone who would rather judge than participate, the participants can be judges and we can have a voting process at the end where you can vote for anyone except yourself. (And have fun with the under-the-table deals -- you vote for mine, I'll vote for yours :D )

I'll participate as a drafter.

I think it's better a composition draft rather than recordings or performances.

Also I would limit the pick to single pieces of music. IE for example prelude or fugue n.X of the Well Tempered Clavier.

If it is so I'm in, if it is a recordings/performances draft I am just an interested reader.

I see your point, but it's just so much fun to listen to classical enthusiasts argue over whose interpretation of a work is the best. If you have a composition draft and somebody picks Beethoven's 7th we'll all sit around and nod in agreement. Kinda boring. But if you have a recording draft and somebody lays down the law about why Furtwangler's kicks more ass than all other recordings combined, well, then things get interesting.

I like the idea of the participants being judges. That way more people can participate.
