I know there are very few restaurants around U of H. I wanted to find out if anyone knows any good restaurants around U of H within a few miles? I don't know of any.

By "good" do you mean good food regardless of price, cheap and highly edible or good and cheap? Also, what type of food are you looking for (e.g. mexican, thai, chinese, "home cooking," etc.)?

It gets mixed reviews, but there's a Thai place nearby on Telephone Rd. - Kanomwan. A lot of people call it "Telephone Thai". They've improved the place a little over the years, but it's still a hole in the wall. You may want to check Zagat's or some online reviews before going there if you've never heard of it.

Also, keep in mind that Elgin is Westheimer, so if you go just five or so minutes westward along Elgin/Westheimer, you'll find lots of places in Midtown and Neartown/Montrose. If you head another five minutes or so westward, then you're at Kirby. Robertson is also about 15 minutes from the Rice Village area. You can take MacGregor or Old Spanish Trail to go between the UH and Rice areas.

Also, if you jump on I-45 and head South for about 10 minutes there are a slew of restaurants outside the 610 loop - the closer you get to BW-8 the better/less run-down they are. Likewise somewhere near the edge of downtown near I-45 is Kim Son, very good, but expensive Chinese/Vietnamese restaurant.

My vote definitely goes out to Jenni's Noodle House on the south side of downtown right off 45 (on your way to Robertson). Excellent food and very friendly owners/staff. Unfortunately not open on Sundays but it's going to be my pick for pregame meal on other days.

You beat me to it. I live on the eastern edge of downtown, and Jenni's is one of my favorites. You could also try District 7 Grill. It's just a few blocks away from Jenni's, but also has limited hours.
In midtown there are a lot of good places on Gray Street between Bagby and Taft...Farragos, Nit Noi Express, Buffalo Wild Wings, Cafe Botticelli - New York Pizzeria, The Fish, This Is It Soul Food, and several more

As far as REALLY near to UH is concerned all I seem to remember when we drove over for the "pick a seat day" was that everyone's home and/or business has iron bars on all the doors and windows - and that I was unwilling to leave my wife and daughter in the car by themselves for even five minutes to enter the Shippley's Donuts right accross from the stadium because of the fellows standing outside not doing anything except watching us drive up and park our car.

When we had Aeros season tickets, however, we used to frequent a number of places a little west of downtown: The Ragin' Cajun on Richmond, Chuys on Westheimer, and the Chinese Place over in the Rice Village (I don't remember its name - but I think it's at the corner of Kirby and something). Just last week, we tried this Japanese grill/sushi place over on the SW Freeway near Buffalo Speedway (a little east of Prince's/Fudrucker's across from the Summit) called Tokyohana that was pretty good. Of course, if you're willing to go a little farther west (and you're also willing to take out a small business loan) you can always treat your friends to Fogo de Chao on Westheimer.

I like Pub Fiction for drinks and food. Plus they always have good specials everyday. http://www.pubfiction.com/ It is on 2303 Smith St. Suite 100 right across from the Spec's Liquor. Plus getting to the stadium is only a few minutes away.

Sat: 11am – 9pm
$3 25oz domestic drafts
$2 well drinks
$2 Chicago Style Hot dogs

Sun: 11am – 2am
$3 25oz domestic drafts
$4 25oz import drafts
$3 Bloody Mary’s
$1.50 mimosas
$15 for 50 wings

Yes...Tokyohana is VERY good. As good as Benihana (if not better) and cheaper.

Taqueria Mexico, Restaurant Doneraki, Papas BBQ, Papas Seafood, and Bonnies Steak House are on Woodridge by the Gulfgate Shopping Center on I-45S right before 610
Drexler's World Famous BBQ & Grill is close to UoH but it has a new owner.
There are some chinese restaurant by St. Charles Area (Warehose/Minute Maid).

You might be better of just going Downtown.
The Flying Saucer for beer/bar food or any of the restaurants on Main St.

So, hold it a second - y'all are saying the MackyD's at the corner of Cullen and Elgin DOESN'T count as a fine dining experience?...

Macky? Was that a typo or do people really say that?

Griff's is less than 3.5 miles down Westheimer/Elgin.
