Darren Bent should undoubtably in my mind be in the England World Cup Roster and should be the third choice striker after Owen and Rooney. If Owen can't go (which is looking more and more likely), then Bent should start.
Bent's blistering pace and uncanny ability to have a go on goal from anywhere within 20 to 30 yards of goal would greatly benefit the england squads current playing style. I think England needs a player like Bent so that he can make runs for Beckham, he would also create space at the top of the penalty box so Gerrard or Lampard could push up and have a go off rebounds or loose balls. Bent also compliments Rooney better, as he creates space when he drifts out towards the wing. In contrast, Owen usually moves in towards net, occupying space Rooney could be exploiting.
I really just feel that Owen and Rooney are very similar and make England one dimensional. If you have Bent in there you give another dimension, same goes for Crouch, who would be good for knocking down balls or heading on goal.

Identical, right down to their penchant for hairy arsed prostitutes. I'd like to see a Huckerby-Owen partnership if only to split Owen and Rooney up 'cos they're shite and Huckerby's fast.

Bent does not show up all the time and plays well in very few matches. Even though he is one of the top goalscorers, I would prefer Defoe over him. He is still a good striker though.

I agree Bent doesn't play well in half his matches, but he is playing for Charlton. Every decent chance he gets is coming from kids in Ambrose and Thomas. Otherwise he is just getting the ball at the halfway line with no support and no where to go but into a cloud of four defenders. Otherwise he is trying to get on the end of long balls by Kishishev, Murphy, and Holland. Charlton just make Bent look bad a lot. He really is a great player, quick with an instinct for goal. He makes chances from nothing, shoots from anywhere. He has always been great for England U-21's.
I want him in the England squad, and maybe in the starting 11 over Owen, because he adds a dimension we lack. He creates space when he drifts right because then Rooney has room on the left or less defenders to face, and Lampard and Gerrard can push up and try to have a go or collect rebounds and loose balls at the top of the penalty box. Bent also allows for a better counter attack, and he gives beckham a target for those long hollywood balls hes always playing.

Just so i am clear. You would like Bent in the starting line up over Michael Owen? The same Michael Owen who seems to be at his best in championships for England and has been the most reliable goalscorer for England over the last few years.
Or is there another Michael Owen that is gonna be in the squad?

Agreed. Whatever hypothetical dimension Bent may add, he didn't against Uruguay, and Owen is England's most proven goalscorer right now. Unless he's injured, dropping him would be suicide. Bent may well have a shot of making the squad, but not the starting XI.

They could not be more different as players....Rooney is all over the park, has a free role and Owen hangs around up top waiting for a chance to bury the opposition...don't know what games you've been watching....but these two are chalk and cheese....and perfect for England.

right.....
Rooney gives us another dimention and Bent isn't as good as Owen.

Darren Bent should not even be considered.
Rooney>Owen>Defoe> Crouch> Bent
If there is a miracle he might get to play for 5 minutes in the game against T&T.

Wow, I guess I was massively misunderstood. I want Bent in the starting 11 if, and only if, Owen isn't all the way ready to go. I don't want to see him out their with a limp. If he can't sprint all the way, put Bent in. I do want Bent in the World Cup squad though.
The thing about Rooney and Owen making England one dimensional wasn't a comment in that the two are similar players, they clearly aren't. Rooney likes to play from the outside and at the top of the Penalty Box. Owen likes to play on the last defender.
What I mean by they make England one dimensional is that they both are smaller players (although Rooney clearly has a physical presence) who can only play if they get the ball at their feet and have room to run. Bent would create space for Rooney by drifting outside, giving Rooney room to drift inside and take on fewer defenders. Bent also allows for long balls from Becks as he is just a little faster than Owen and plays at the top towards the sides, allowing Becks to drop passes by the corner flags. Crouch would also add a dimension that Rooney and Owen don't give England, he would be a target to knock down long balls and head crosses on goal.
I hope Owen can go, but, until he is fully fit, I would rather see Bent or Crouch in there.

Also, I think Defoe shouldn't get to play, as he isn't playing much for Tottenham lately. Crouch is a good option, but I'd rather have Bent. Owen might not be able to play.
Rooney>Owen (If ready)>Bent>Crouch>Defoe

seem to recall that Owen's last two goals for England were both scored with his head......
