The season is going to start in less than a month, so I decided it would be a good idea to have some discussions here about it. I know most people are focused on the World Cup coming up, but I also have my eye on the start of the Brasileirão too.

I was curious to see how many people would be interested in a prediction league for the Brasileirão. Predict the scores for each game every round. You get a point for every result correct and 2 or 3(not sure) for evey EXACT score you get correct. If you guessed Santos 2 x Cruzeiro 1, and the result was Santos 2 x Cruzeiro 1, then you would get 2/3 points. Anyone interested?

I have to say..2006 is THE year for Inter. They are viryually unstoppable right now...they have a great team and and awesome bench...they have now won 10 games in a rown and havent lost at home in 30 matches. Just won anotherone today 6x2 with the Reserve team.
2005 should have been a Brazilian title for Inter..it wasnt due to what we all know (Zveiter)...but in 06...libertadores and Brasileirao....I think they win both...or at the least one.

They are playing well, but I don't think there is a clear cut favorite. Santos is another team that should compete. If Corinthians can pull everything together, they should be able to defend their title.

Well... One more Brasileirão under "pontos corridos". Probably the format that really shows who is the best team. But I like the old format.
Anyway... let's see what team will be the best prepared for the championship... I think Inter and Goiás are doing a good job in Libertadores and they will do a good job in Brasileirão too.

I agree, Goiás is another team to watch out for in 2006. They were underrated last year and made a big splash. Another team that should do well is Cruzeiro with their addition of Elber.

Bad bad... Bad situation of the Rio de Janeiro teams... It was always enjoyable to see Cariocas vs Paulistas...But now isn't... I don't like to remember the Copa Mercosul finals against Flamengo and Vasco, but those games was sensationals... Copa do Brasil, when Euller scored two goals against Flamengo...I almost become crazy!!! Anyway... I hope that Cariocas become strong again. And we will see all these rivalry again...

Cruzeiro with Elber and Gil is a dangerous team.

Yeah, you can see my rant about Carioca football in the Stadium Championship thread.

I think Inter's fate all depends on if they can keep Sobis. They still have a ton of young attacking talent, but I dunno. Sobis is gone for sure over the summer.

Have to disagree.
Sobis is hurt and hasn't played 1 game this year and Inter is on a 10 game winning streak and hasnt lost at home in 30 matches. While Sobis is a good player, he is a non factor right now as he has not played in almost 5 months.
Inter's quality is depth and that exactly why Sobis is a non factor. On Sunday Inter fielded their reserves for a Gaucho Championship and beat the opponent 6x2, away. The reserve team which basicly took Inter to the Gauchao Finals starting Sunday is a good team on its own right. So needless to say Inter's bench right now is very deep. There are 2-3 good players for each position. When you look at Inter's bench you can't help but think they are really ready.

yes but the gaucho tournament is a bit weak, is it not? i mean, it's pretty much only inter. then you have gremio who are until recently a second division team...and they were just eliminated in the tourmanent. juventude is pretty weak too. their success is a bit deceiving. it's like nilmar racking up all these goals in the paulistao. the state championships dont show anything about a team. even im skeptical about my beloved palmeiras, especially since they cant beat the quality opponents, but easily walk over weaker ones.
i still think inter are a great team, but like i said, i still think their success hinges on sobis, especially when they play higher quality opponents. even with a lot of depth, it's still hard to make up the goal scoring of someone who is probably capable of getting 25 this season.

If it was ONLY the Gauchao then I would agree. But INTER is also doing GREAT at the Libertadores , 3 Wins and a Tie in Game 1 (that was a win until the last minute). They totally destoyed Nacional and showed balls in both Pumas wins. On top of that they could have been Brazilian Champs last year if it were not for Zveiter. So its more than the Gauchao. As a matter of Fact the Starters are barely playing the Gauchao, its mostly Team B. That shows the depth the team has. Inters bench currently has...Renteria...Jorge Wagner...Mossoro...Sobis....Elder Granja....thats a deep Bench. All of which are playing very well (excet for Sobis which is still out).

Looks like some good matchups...Vasco vs Inter, Sao Paulo x Flamengo...Gremio x Corinthians are all national Classic.
I wish the brains at CBF though used each Round to have a TV "Classic game of the week". Instead they usually cram all the big Classicos, Grenal, FlaFlu etc..on the same day...which to me is a wastethey should be featuring the biggest Classicos alone each week.
So when there is a Fla-Flu, Corinthians Palmeiras, Grenal....those fans never get to watch the other classics because they are focused on their own. There should be a Classic played at a day and time that no other game is played. Maybe Sunday Night?
I guess marketng ala Monday Night Football hasnt arrived in Brazil yet.

Wow, I didn't know we were playing Gremio in the first round (I hadn't checked the schedules).
I hope we do our part to put them back in the segundona where they belong. =)

I completely agree with you. People overseas who watch Globo Internacional can only see one game if they are on at the same time. They usually show the "bigger" classic or the classic that has the most at stake. If you want to see other classicos, you have to catch the taped version later in the week usually and that does not always happen.

There hasnt been a GreNal on Globo Internacional in 3 or 4 years....tomorrow they are showing Botafogo vs Madureira instead of the Grenal...even though earlier this week SoccerTV.com was saying the Grenal would air at 5....I knew it was to good to be true.....wow cant wait to see Madureira play...UGH...

That is a shame. Globo shows the games from the larger markets (RJ and SP) over the smaller market (RS). I guess you will listen to the game on the radio?
