Who do you feel would be Germany's strongest starting 11? And how would you play them (4-4-2 3-5-2). I wonder if there's any kind of "general consensus among posters.

hmm....I have two systems in my mind:
-----------------Lehmann-----------------
--Lahm---Friedrich---Mertesacker---Jansen
-----------------Kehl---------------------
-----Frings------------Borowski-----------
---------------Ballack--------------------
------Klose------------Podolski-----------
--------------Lehmann-------------------
--Lahm---Metzelder--Mertesacker--Jansen
-----------Kehl--------------------------
---------------Frings--------------------
---Borowski-------------Schweinsteiger--
-------------Ballack---------------------
------------------Klose-----------------
My problem is the centre back position. I hope that Metzelder and Mertesacker improve, otherwise we'll get some problems. Manuel Friedrich would be an alternative.

I like both lineups. Both look strong. Any others with ideas?:)

Yepp, that looks good. The only thing I'd change is Mertesacker for Fahrenhorst.
I'd also take Klose out of the mix and chose Assamoah instead..........
Oh wait.....its not the first of April yet.....sorry....;)

I'll have a more defenive set up, with Kehl as sweeper
or a 4-5-1,

Kehl is awesome. Kicker's player of the game in the BVB - Hamburg game.
I would play:
------------------Kahn------------------
Friedrich-----Metze-----Mertesacker---Lahm
------------------Kehl------------------
Borowski------------------------Schwein
------------------Ballack-----------------
----------Klose-------------Podolski------
or
------------------Kahn------------------

Frings--------------------------------Schwein
---------------Ballack-----------------
-------------------Klose--------------

If i could pick the German side, i'd say this was your guys's best choice:
--------------------Lehmann
Friedrich---Mertesacker----Woerns(though unlikely)--Lahm
-----------------------Kehl-----------------------------
Borowski----------------------------------Schweinsteiger
--------------------Ballack------------------------------
---------Kuranyi-----------Klose
I don't see why everyone selects Podolski. Someone who doesn't always make the starting side for the last side in the BL doesn't deserve to start on the NT. And Metzelder, what qualifies him as a starter, he's regularly benched at Dortmund...

I know what you're saying but Podolksi adds a certain element of pace and flare that Kuranyi doesn't have. Plus, Kevin hasn't been having such a terrific season either. I also think Poldi and Klose compliment each other better.

If Podolski is healthy he starts for Köln - he started in 23 of 27 games (recently against Hannover he had the flu but still played the second half) and has played in 25 games. http://fussballdaten.de/spieler/podolskilukas/2006/

I was thinking of the Hannover game yes, i didn't know he had the flu though...
I still think Kuranyi has had a better season though. He has scored more goals, played at the highest level in Europe, and he's had much fiercer competition for his starting spot in Schalke than Podolski has in Koeln. I've generally been very dissappointed by Podolski this season. He scored more goals in the second half of his first 1. BL season two years ago than he has this time around.
Btw, has anyone considered Thurk? He's been Mainz's life-saver on quite a few occassions this year...

I am big fan of Thurk, but I think he might be too similar to Neuville

This is really a tough call for Klinsi. Both Kuranyi and Poldi are not in their top forms now. Kuranyi did better in friendlies throughout. Poldi was excellent in the confed cup. And now we have Neuville who has made wonders in the friendlies against USA.
Option 1 (Balanced) 4-4-2:
-----------------Kahn------------------
Janzen-----Metze----Mertesacker---Lahm
------------------Frings------------------
Borowski------------------------Schweini
------------------Ballack-----------------
----------Klose-----------Podolski--------
Option 2 (all attack) 4-2-4:
--------------- --Kahn------------------
Jansen-----Metze-----Merte--------Lahm
----------------------------------------
----- Ballack-----------Schweini---------
----------------------------------------
Neuville/Hanke--Kuranyi-- Podolski---Klose---
Option 3: (all defensive) 5-4-1:
--------------- --Kahn----------------------
Jansen---Metze---Merte--Fahrenhorst--Lahm
---------------------------------------------
----Frings--------Borowski-------Schweini-----
------------------Ballack--------------------
---------------- --Klose--------------------
