This is interesting...
The president of the argentinian football association Julio Grondona insists that the WC 2014 should be held in Brazil.
Here is the article in spanish...

Is it ours yet? Unless there's an unlikely economic disaster in the upcoming 10 years can we expect any FIFA/Comnebol setbacks?
Also is there a chance that it will be moved foward to '2010 if Africa fails to meet the requirements?

China is said to be ignoring the new continental rotate system and will launch an official bid for the 2014 WC. Unlikely to happen, but since we're talking about FIFA, we never know. Let's hope they will hold on to their word this time.

I don't believe in what they say. It seems a political move by them to get some press for themselves. They will host the 2008 Olympic Games. Anyway, they can emerge politically stronger and then try to host the 2018 WC.

It would be an outrage. 2010 is supposedly going to CAF, 2014 to South America, and then that would technically leave 2018 to North America (actually Mexico would be next there since the US hosted the last time - so maybe joint host US and Mexico???) Asia, since they just hosted the World Cup, wouldn't be slated to have another World Cup until 2022. Yeah, 20 years is a long time. No doubt they want to bumb that up if they can. Who cares if it pushes back the others? And don't think for a second that UEFA won't also have problems with waiting so long after Germany in 2006.
FIFA should stick with it if they're gonna do it and hold it true. Otherwise they should go back to the proposal bids to decide. Think about it though - 2010 is really only 6 years away... hopefully CAF will be ready, whether it be Morocco or South Africa (the likely two to jockey to host).

How it works?
They say: "Ok, Fifa, you said 'no' this time (2014), but now you owe me one".
I am not saying it will work. But it seems what they are trying to do.
I read somewhere, sometime ago, that the 2022 WC will take place in North America. 2018? Oceania, maybe? Europe? I don´t know.

Apologies for not responding sooner!
BUt that is the wheeling and dealing of FIFA. I don't know though if it would be like FIFA "owing" China a WC because of 2014 since technically Asia should not have a WC until after North America has one. However with anything FIFA says, you have to look at it as simply "words in the air".
If the revolving calendar or whatever it is called works, then really, North America should have the WC in 2018 I believe. 2006-UEFA, 2010-CAF alreadyh, 2014 S. America. The last WC was AFC, the one before that UEFA and the one before that CONCACAF. By the time 2018 comes along, CONCACAF will be the federation to have gone the longest without hosting, not Asia. That would push China back to 2022, then 2026 (provided football is not replaced by running cyborgs) would go back to UEFA. That would be the **fair** way to do it. But of course, it won't be fair to China who will cry and probably get their hosting bid pushed up, etc. etc.
I deliberately left off Oceana. With only two **major** football nations in that federation, unless they merge with maybe AFC or CAF, I could see an outrage by other feds. if Australia is granted a Cup. Especially now when an Oceana nation hasn't qualified for the cup in many years.

The way China is playing, they would need to wait to 2018 to even be remotely competitive. :p
Seriously, 2014 WC should be their reward for being Pentacampeao. But by then, they'd be Hexa or Septa champs. :D

Continental rotation is stupid anyway. There's at least 10 European countries with the facilities to host a WC, compared to 2 (maybe 3 if Canada wanted to go for it) in North America, 1 in Asia (2 if Japan/SC co-host) a few in SA, and one or 2 in Africa and one in oceania.
They should put them where the money and the facilities are, while keeping an eye out to not completely neglect any federations. If you rotate by continent, Australia is a lock to host every 6th world cup.

Just curious, but what cities and stadiums would be best for a Brazilian WC bid? I've checked out http://www.worldstadiums.com and it seems like there are some interesting stadiums in cities without major power clubs (Manaus, for example). Thanks for your help.

That website is not very up to date...

They stadium could house a WC match, but I don't know if the city infrastructure could.

Well I think deffinetly Rio with the Maracana and São paulo with Morumbi are locks. Arena da baixada in Curitiba will probably also be a lock , since its the newest and most modern stadium in Brazil. Then we could have Belo horizonte with the Mineirão, Porto Alegre with the Olimpico, Recife with Santa Cruz's stadium, Goiania with the Serra Dourada and Belem with the Mangueirão from the post above.
I don't know what criteria they would use for choice, but this pretty much represents all the regions in the country with cities that have the required infrastructure.

I think this discussion would belong to the current 2014' (possible) World Cup in Brazil thread.

The Vivaldao in Manaus seems like a nice stadium. Is there the infrastructure in Manaus to justify the city being a WC host?

It's ours, according to Blatter:
http://oglobo.globo.com/online/esportes/133819320.asp

Blatter sees Brazil staging 2014 World Cup
ASUNCION, Feb 7 (Reuters) - FIFA president Sepp Blatter virtually handed the 2014 World Cup finals to Brazil on Saturday.
"I know you have practically taken a decision as to where (the finals) are going, possibly the country that will celebrate its centenary in 2014," Blatter told a South American Football Confederation (CSF) congress.
"So if that's the case, it will be Brazil," he said at the CSF's headquarters in the Paraguayan capital.
