What is the starting team that you think will maximize your country's chances to do well? As in, the one that you know is the best but maybe your National Team coach cannot see it because he's an idiot. (And of course, 99 percent of all fans always believe their NT coach is an idiot.

This is what I posted in another thread, the formation I want for Argentina:

The system is a 3-3-1-3, very similar to Bielsa's, but with a more clear creator in Riquelme. Messi and Tevez take the places of Ortega and Piojo Lopez. I think if we want to maximize the talents of Zanetti and Sorin, this is our best shot, although certainly I hope for more flexibility than Bielsa showed us. Aguero has to be on the bench, to bring him if we need a difference maker at the end, as we did against Sweden last time, when we couldn't respond to their defensive tactics. If we desperately need a goal, we can do worse than having Kun come in.

As far as what Pekerman will do, I hope he does exactly what I want. I really believe in this lineup. Unfortunately, I have little hope that he'll use Gonzalo as a starter, but I cannot see how he could leave Zanetti out of the lineup. We'll have to wait and see.

Nice line-up. I'd probably use Bilos as leftstriker and Tevez as central striker against teams where more mobility is needed and Cruz as the central striker incase you need someone to hold up the ball. And perhaps Cambiasso
incase you need more presence in your central midfield.

There are a few formations I'd like to see for Holland, as we don't have players 11 players who are able to play against any team. For example: Sneijder would get slaughtered by Ivory Coast's midfielders.

This is the basic formation. A strong, skilled and smart midfield that can take care of most of the situations. Van Nistelrooy is our best central striker, Robben is our best forward and Kuijt is the best addition to these two. Mathijsen and Boulahrouz are probably our best defenders, but they might lack some needed skills in the area of building up the play. But as long as they manage to reach Emanuelson, Maduro or Ooijer we should be fine.

The only difference in the line-up is Van der Vaart for Van Nistelrooy, but this makes quite some difference. Van der Vaart is a better forward then Van Nistelrooy, but he cannot play as deep. I'd use VdV incase there is no need for a deep striker, for example: when we fase a central defense that is unlikely to start building up attacks and basicly can be left alone. This also means more space for Robben and Kuijt to cut inside, which they like to do.

Mathijsen and Boulahrouz as the markers in a three-man defense. Ooijer is there to protect them and start attacks. This is my favorite defense, but can only be used against teams that use two striker who play next to each other. Because Maduro was removed to make room for Cocu, I prefer Sneijder over Van der Vaart, as Sneijder is a playmaker, and VdV is a momentvoetballer as we would call that in Dutch. Which means as much that he is insuited to be the playmaker, as he is a players that has his moments, but isn't consistant enough. Landzaat is prefered over van Bommel, as Sneijder is already not the best player when out of posession, so we cannot also have Van Bommel forgetting to do his defensive duties.

My most attack-oriented line-up. In this line-up I have our best goalscorer, our best shadowstriker and our best playmaker all lined up as central as possible. Cocu, Davids and Landzaat are there to maintain the balance in midfield. Castelen is prefered over Kuijt, because Castelen is a more pure winger and will keep more space central for Van der Vaart and Sneijder. Mathijsen and Boulahrouz are once again needed in the back as they most likely will be playing one versus one most of the match. The downside to this formation is that it can only be used against two strikers, but any team where you need both Sneijder and Van der Vaart to break down their defense isn't very likely to field three strikers.

Because I wanted an alternative for theer strikers. Two strikers will often work best against teams who operate in a zone-defense instead of marking. It will not be often used, but it can be usefull. Especially against the Italians who will surely play there defense this way. Van der vaart and Sneijder together in midfield again, because most of the danger will need to come from the center. Emanuelson and Ooijer will have to overlap often for width.

Ofcourse sometimes you need to change some things depending on the opposing team, but I'd start with these formations and work from there.

The only dfference with Van basten's starting XI probably is that he'll let Matthijsen start ahead of Ooijer. I prefer Ooijer as he adds more value going forward than Matthijsen.

If we're playing against weak opposition (Germany in the quarters for example) I would sacrifice one of our back four and put an extra midfielder in (Maduro) to play in a 3-4-3.

Whatever it is, I don't rate Sorin very high. He is very hardworking, yes, but I would expect more from a player in his position. He's way below Zanetti, for instance.

Anyway, he's a favourite of Pekerman, so there's no way he won't be included.

The system is 100% certain (4-3-3) and the only positions ever so slightly in doubt are right midfield (Van Bommel or Landzaat), right back and central defender (if Kromkamp doesn't play Ooijer will switch to the right and Matthijsen will take his place in central defence). So yes, my earlier prediction is at least 80% accurate. If you want to bet against that be my guest!
