Today, in the Examiner, I was excited when I saw that there was an 8-page DC United Section advertised on the front cover.
Overall, I wasn't that impressed. Some large photographs and advertisements from DCU seem to take up most of the insert. That being said, there is a nice table with the lineup and an article on the team and, of course, one on Adu.
You can get the paper for free anywhere near a metro stop. Just thought you might like to know.

Excellent. Impressive or not, 8 pages is bound to grab a lot "non-soccer" people's attention which doesn't hurt.

Unfortunately I think there may be more Metros fans than Examiner readers.

I don't know... my wife commutes from Reston via the park and ride into DC and the Examiner box is always empty at the end of the day when I've picked her up. Also, I've seen their people some mornings handing out free coffee to commuters. So my guess is that they get a good amount of readership out of the metro system commuters every day. Other than that though, not sure who else reads it regularly.

The long arm of Uncle Phil.
Q: why would a free newspaper give so much coverage to a soccer team in the US?
A: same owner.
not that I have a problem with that.

It's two articles and a sked.
The thing I'm happy about is that they sold ads with the section and gave the section a big promo on the front page.

I saw a roster, but no schedule (online edition). In fact, I didnt see any mention of opening day or a schedule.

Gotta have something to wipe the human juice off the seats on the Metro before you sit down.;)
