Look guys. I'm starting to get fed up with the rumours going round about Carlos Vela. Have we signed him or haven't we? I'm also confused about Fran Merida have we signed him or haven't we?

Vela, yes (though it's complicated).
Merida, no (although that could change within a month).

Not too sure about the deal with Fran, but I BELIEVE that Vela was to be loaned to Celta Vigo until he turns 18 from what I can remember but that may have changed too I'm sure someone knows....Thank ya now...Roscoe!

From Wikipedia.... and wikipedia knows everything. It even knows what you sung in the shower this morning :D
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Carlos Alejandro Vela Garrido (born March 1, 1989 in Cancún, Quintana Roo) is a Mexican football striker who currently plays for Celta de Vigo.

after moving to the big leagues of Europe, Vela's career started in the Primera División de México with Chivas de Guadalajara. His big break came when he participated the U-17 World Cup with the Mexican national team. Vela helped his side take the U-17 World Cup from many world-class sides, including the Brazil, whom he helped his side defeat 3-0 in the final game of the tournament. With the conclusion of the 2005 World Cup in Peru, Vela was named the top scorer of the tournament with 5 goals and claimed the Adidas Golden Boot.

Following his strong showing at the championship, Vela attracted interest from a number of European sides. A series of news reports linked him to Arsenal, and he had a trial with the club, but Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger admitted rules forbade him from signing Vela until the striker turns eighteen[1]. Vela eventually signed for Celta de Vigo in 2006 on a five-year contract[2]; Arsenal and Celta have a "technical partnership" which means the two clubs exchange coaches and scouting expertise, and Spanish newspaper Marca reports that Arsenal have first option on signing Vela after his eighteenth birthday

See your still saying we have signed Vela and someone else is saying we haven't. What the hell is actually going on? Have you got a reliable link to back up your believe and has the other guy got a reliable link to his believe because lets face it Wikipedia isn't a reliable source for football transfers? Like Arsenal's website, Vela's ex club website, or even Celta's website please.

About Fran Merida could you find a reliable link on him like Barca's website, our website, or Celta's website.

Vela's ex club website
For what it's worth, at the time this all went down Chivas's website reported that he signed for Arsenal. I'd gather that what everyone else is saying is true though (first option to buy at 18). I hope you can wait another 11 months to find out.

The wiki is wrong. Vela signed with Arsenal but went on loan to Celta Vigo. I don't understand EU regulations but it's because of some residency or citizenship requirement (maybe EU passport easier to get in Spain? ) that it was decided to send him to Celta.

I don't think he was allowed to sign for Arsenal in the first place (after everyone initially thinking he had). Then again, I'm working off memory and this story has changed so many times.

the wiki isn't wrong. It links to several credible stories. To say it is wrong you musy have some proof. Arsenal's website never mentioned him signing and they would have if he had signed. I mean he's as good as signed when he is 18 so whats the problem??

Fran can't sign till he is 16 and i read a story which said that his agent has been keeping him away from barca so he can join here i.e he hasnt been playing with barca for a number of months now.

Difference between them is that Vela is non EU so has to wait for 18th Birthday and but Merida is EU so 16 is the level.

I agree with what your saying here. If he signed Arsenal would have mentioned it and there qould have been pictures and stuff like that. When he turns 18 he most likely will be an Arsenal player unless he turns out to be not good at all and Wenger sees no potential in him. With Meirda i have no clue whats happening because all i heard was that he was in hiding.

This is a Reuters dispatch about Vela going on loan to Celta:

Celta take Arsenal striker Vela on loan
MADRID, Feb 1 (Reuters) - Celta Vigo have taken Arsenal's young Mexican striker Carlos Vela on loan, the Primera Liga club said on their website on Wednesday.

Arsenal bought the sporting rights to the 16-year-old Guadalajara player in November after he impressed for Mexico at the under-17 world championship in Peru.

The secong link says that he FAILED to sign for the gunners so moved to celta instead. I think, like gunner0007 that until I see it on the website it hasn't happened. I think he will sign either on or just after his 18th birthday.

im sure, at the time of it all happening, i remember hearing that we have brought him and own him, but immediatly farmed him out of loan for 2 years to celta because he was too young to register as a player here in the UK. i definatly read/saw that but cant remember where.
with fran, last i heard was that he was in hiding until hes 16 and can sign a contract with us, and we will then send him on loan, also to celta, ill try find a link, but im 99% sure nothing has been completed

God I think these two transfers are the most complicated since i've been supporting Arsenal which is a long time. The link someone post earlier says Vela doesn't have the papers to play for Celta's first team either. That seems a bit stupid to send a player out to Celta if we have done that who can't even play for their first team. I just wish they (the press) would stop talking about him bcause he can't come to us until he is 18 which isn't til 2008.

Also i've heard Fran is meant to be a much better player than Cesc. They must know each other quite well bcause Cesc would have been there when Fran was coming through. When is Fran's birthday?
