Hi peoples,
This store in my area is having a "sale" on the new Lunar Mania's and I was wondering if they're worth purchasing?
The main thing I'd like to find out is if the rubber vamps actually make a difference? Coz I've notice they tend to lie level with the surrounding leather or possibly below it.
I know they're the lightest Preds ever but is their weight a factor compared to other boots?
I know these sorts of questions may have been asked before but any reviews/insights would be most appreciated :)

Nah it doesn't,
I live in Australia and this store is more like a city-wide sports chain store, not a big time place.
By "sale" the boots are like $200 Australian dollars which equates to $115 US so not that big a sale.

If the ball contacts the rubber it does tend to make a diffrence due to the surface contact caused by the change in texture and friction with the ball.
I think the mania is the best of the Preds I have owned and are the only ones that don't slow the ball down due to causing to much spin like the first few models did.
The boot is only going to cause a slight change in the flight of the ball in terms of power or swerve though depending on how you are striking it in a given situation( bending freekick, or a instep drive).
The rubber is about level with the leather and really cuts down on the bulk and clunky apperence and performance of the older models, I think the fact that the foot contacting ball as much as the rubber as oppose to the rubber being the only thing making contact causes a better strike and more control this time around.
I would recomend getting them at the price they are its a steal considering the $200.00 cost here in the states.

Has anybody actually compared the Predator vamp from the Mania I vs. Mania II? Is there a visible difference?

They look and feel the same to me, even on the Lunar's (Mania II's) the vamp isn't above the leather as much as I'd like it to be. Though despite my early reservations the vamp is effective.

i saw the lunar manias today and the look awesome.
the leather doesn't seem as soft as the other manias but that is just because of the dye used on the leather i am sure they will soften up after a few training session.
the rubber islands were placed the same as the other models and not raised up at all either.

I think everyone is reading the info wrong it's the same stuff they had as a profile on the shoe when the black manias came out the, repositioned and improved vamp thing means from older models like the percisions of the Predator line not the current mania style

Ya i think I might have made that mistake. Is this boot still called the Mania, or is it the Mania II (much like the Precision II).

Its listed in adidas catalogs and most places as the Mania. Some places are calling it the Mania II just because of the fact there was a Percisions II.
adidas from what i am told has no plans to update the boot other than new colors and a possible release of a six stud soft ground version in the USA(already sold in UK) since they feel its the perfect pro level boot which many people agree with it, has become the most sold boot in the world since its release and the most used among the prosesional ranks on a worldwide basis.
If it were up to me I would round out the toe box a little bit more them but i still am wearing them more than any of my other boots right now.

Round them out as in make them pointier? My friend suggested that somebody make a boot that has a tapered toe box (that follows the outline of your toes).
Have you seen any players in the US with mixed soles? I've seen players in England convert their Copa's to 6-studs+whatever multi's are left. Just cut off the studs, and put stud inserts. It'd be interesting to see somebody with 6 studs+traxion studs.

I mean to make the toe box a bit wider and this would be done by makinng the forefoot a bit wider and then the toe would round out a little more, kinda like the total 90 series by nike.
i have seen the mixed stud bottoms on many EPL players feet in the Copa and the Tiempo Permier while I think you or I would have to cut and plug to get the same result most of those guys can get whatever bottom they want on their boots through their sponsers.
the TRX bottom with rounded stud would be an interesting idea but i am not sure how it would go over in terms of twisting and turning on the knees.
The toe outline thing is a good idea as well but with people having funky toe lengths that would be hard unless the shoe was custom fitted to their foot.

Ya that's true...it seems after seeing the movie "Shallow Hal" I see a lot more people with index toes longer then their big toe hahaha

A-Line Boots make a mixed sole boot. You can see them at www.prodirectsoccer.com. They are really nice(the model like Zola wears). Also, in reference to the mania's, I love my pair and agree with the rounded out toe box. I think it would make them a bit more universal as far as who plays in them, as I find them a bit snug at first but eventually, they stretch some and fit like a glove.

I have that "problem" and I took a bit of abuse from my buddies about it since we are always finding those type of things to bag on each other about, but ever since "Shallow Hal" I have gotten it worse.

Well Adidas has a new development project call MI Adidas where you walk on a foot scan and it mesures your arch, exact length, width and footstrike data. They are suppose to start using this to custom fit shoes for the normal non Beckham shoe wearing public, and its the samething they use to fit the boots to the contracted players, it will cost a little more but if I could get a boot custom fitted then I would pony up an extra $30 or $40, on top of that you can add some custom lettering and numbers like Becks or Zidane.
I also remember you saying you were intrested in the K-Leather Total 90 II's I tried them on this weekend before the snow storm hit and they are great the leather is so soft and the fit is very good in terms of heel grip and toe box room.

I love this boot...however it's hard to get it in North American without paying huge charges for shipping etc. A-Line now sponsors the Hong Kong 1st division, so i'm wondering if i could get them in HK.
I remember seeing the MI last year sometime, but I think it was a contest.
Does the K-leather T902 have the same fit as the KNG 100's? I find the KNG 100's fit well (but a bit loose), but I'd much rather have a boot that fits super tight, and that I can break in.

Just go down a half a size in the T90's in K-leather and you should be set they will break in real nice due to the leathers high quality
PS its only $14.00 to ship from Pro Direct i bought a pair of Mizuno Morealias from there at Christmas time they will take a little longer to get there but for some of the boots its worth it
