hey
I have always had crappy vision, but after having played with my team for 6 years, when the game was moving faster than I was used to, I usually knew where my players were going to be.
Now I play high school, and no one moves where I'm used to, and my vision sucks. That makes me have extra touches in the middle, which makes me try to cut the ball back, which makes it so I can't see, and I eventually just go down in flames and lose the ball, with my coach yelling "just pass it the first time you see him!" when I didn't see "him"... i hope you know what I"m saying... basically I don't know where people are at as much
this isn't to say that I'm always playing with my head down, but when I'm having trouble controlling a ball with someone running at me, I usually just cut it back so that I have more time. Any suggestions?

Well I can't say I've ever run into that problem if you play with your HS players outside of school you'll get to learn how to play with them, It doesn't take usually more than 1 or 2 seasons to figuire it out. But if you having trouble with field vision my best suggestion is make sure you work on your first touch and make sure that wherever you are on the field you always have 2-3 options to pass to, think about where you are going to pass the ball before you even get it, or if you are going to get it at all. If that doesn't seem to work for you make sure that when you have ur first touch that your facing prime position (means you can see basically as much as the field as possible), I personally like the thinking before you get the ball, make sure you are always thinking where you are going to pass or if you even need to pass at all if you get the ball.

Hope I helped!

Another thing --

Do you find yourself continually playing in this pattern?

1. Get the ball.
2. Decide what you're going to do with it.

Most of the time, it should be the other way around:

1. Decide what you're going to do with the ball if it comes to you.
2. Get the ball.

This is how pros are able to string together multiple passes faster than you can even process it as a spectator. Each individual knows where he's going to pass it, and just instinctively makes the pass as the ball comes to him.

Of course, if the other players on your team aren't expecting the pass, that strategy doesn't do much good. So encourage them to think the same way. But deciding beforehand what you're going to do doesn't always have to be about passing.

For me, I've always had good touch, it was just my vision that was lacking. I was good at picking out the 10 yard pass quickly, but not the 20-25 yard pass. The thing that helps me out the most is to focus on whats around more, than worrying about my touches on the ball. The ball at your feet should be second nature, worry more about where everyone else is.

if the players in ur team are in their correct positions u shouldnt have any problems... Think about it u receieve the ball and turn to the left of the pitch u could go to the left back or hit a ball thru the middle or try a ball to the left midfielder, and if their not in their propa positions its not ur fault. Its just all tactical awareness.

there's no such thing as lack of vision. there's only lack of technique (most notably the first touch), keeping your head down, and not thinking ahead of the game. all of these things divert your attention from the game. there are also team mates who just cannot understand the concept of creating passing lane for the player with the ball, but that's a different issue.

I just want to second the notion that you should know what you're going to do with the ball before it gets to you. You have to train yourself to look around BEFORE the pass gets to you. Not like 5 seconds before, but while the physical ball is actually rolling or flying toward you. When it's on the way, glance quickly to see open teammates and/or people that are about to make runs. this way when the ball actually gets to your feet you will have SOME sort of idea what to do with it. It's all about thinking before acting my man!

I think "vision" in this context is a combination of what you stated as "thinking ahead of the game" and "paying attention". There is definitely such a thing as having a lack of vision. If you're not paying attention to the game around you and thinking ahead of it, you've got a lack of vision.
