Considering we played the second half with our reserve team, I have no idea what to make of this game. We had plenty of opportunities in both halves, but had a hard time actually finding net. I really would've liked to see (hear) how well our first team did against a 9 man Houston, but this boiled down to just another meaningless friendly in the end as Nowak seemed more content to see how our subs did than how the first team would do against an underhanded team.

Is there any hope of their being video of this at some point?

Adu went the full 90, and seemed very active at the beginning and end, but vanished for a large chunk of the middle of the match.

Glad to see (hear) Esky get in.

Sounded like Filomeno had lots of chances but couldn't capitalize on any.

We had lots of chances, but our only goal comes from a PK. That sounds frighteningly familiar.

after a classy move, (11 v. 11) the second half was a snoozefest.

What happened to Nick? I thought he was supposed to start this match. I was at class for most of the match, all the scoring and red-cards had been accomplished by the time I started listening and joined in the pbp chat, during the second half.

Can anyone tell if the Houston red-cards were a result of DC playing really well, forcing Houston to foul, or just sloppy pre-season play?

Makes me wonder if the word around the league is to play against our midfield physically. Jerkoff gets shown the door the other night for it, now DeRo. We're either going to see alot of scuffles this year or someone getting hurt. I wonder if Geoff Aunger or Ivan McKinnley are available?

Could have been a little payback for Stokes kicking Robinson in the face last year?

While I definitely do think that the rest of the league thinks that to beat United you have to physically clamp down on Gomez and Moreno, what's odd in these two cases is that it's not some hack on the other side doing the.. hackin'. It's supposedly the other team's most creative player. That's seriously screwed up.

I saw Nick in a walking cast during the DC match, he was actually buying some hot chocolat (it dipped down to 39F tonight). don't have any other details though.

Uh... this is kind of a big development. Anyone else heard anything?

I think anyone who watched Chicago's dismantling of DC United last October got some new ideas for how to beat the team.

Nick was jogging on Saturday! I believe MikeyMouse - he's not a rumoring-mongering troll p**sy (like the scum).

Though, Nick should have gone with the coffee - gotta question that decision.

But notice that this happens when Olsen isn't around.

The team needs to show some character and channel the energies and spirtis of guys like Aunger and McKinnley. The team has been 'soft' with the losses of Nellie and Petke.

Olsen, sometimes Boz and Gros, are the only ones that show some grit.

Esky and Namoff are probably the hardest guys left on the team. Gros, Olsen and Boz may get stuck-in, but they are not nearly as malicious (arriving late, tackling high, not pulling out of tackles, etc) as Esky or Namoff when the latter two get their dander up.

Any people who were there going to write up a report?

I was just going to say that. With Kovalenko gone and Olsen on USNT duty, there's no one in the lineup to protect Moreno and Gomez. It's a shame that they need "protecting." However, it's comforting to see that the referees are not going to permit harsh fouls on skilled players to go unpunished.

I would say that 4 red cards in 1.5 games is pretty good protecting. I would much rather our guys stay on the field and we make teams pay on the scoreboard.
